Would you do this? Would the Cavs do this To Blazers: Baron Davis (3 years 14mil and up) First Pick of the draft (Kyrie Irving) To Cavs Camby Batum Why for the Blazers. To get a possible PG star finally. Why for the Cavs Get out from under the Davis contract and to get a very good player in Batum. They would still have the 4th pick in the draft.
Actually, perhaps they would do that for the 4th pick in the draft, but I'm thinking they would want Wesley Matthews as well. Or, Miller/Matthews instead of Camby, and then decide what to do with Miller's team option. Maybe they just waive Miller and save money for Batum's extension.
I don't think the Cavs do this. They need the "PR" that surrounds selecting #1. However, I can envision them making this trade for their #4 pick. And maybe we can land Kemba Walker with this pick? But I'd much rather trade for Antawn Jaimison and give up Oden, than Batum. We need to do a little rebuilding. So Roy and Oden need to go. You have to keep the core of Aldridge, Batum and Matthews. Vetrans like Wallace and Miller will keep us competitive. Add a PG to this mix - and sign a Center at the MLE and we can start the process. And take a gamble on this Brazilian kid (7'-0" string bean) with our own pick in the draft.
I agree that my trade does favor the Blazers, but doing it for the 4th pick favors the Cavs since there are really no good options at 4. Actually, thinking about it, I would do the trade for the 4th if Knight was still on the table. But I would not give up Batum for anyone else.
I'd rather have Knight then Walker. I don't agree with trying to rebuild on the fly, you either blow it all up or you try and make a run imo. Rebuilding on the fly leads often to the dreaded fringe playoff team.
The 1st pick was preposterous, but I think a Matthews/Batum/Miller for Davis/#4 makes sense for both teams. Portland gets either Knight or Kanter, and Cleveland gets a good 3pt shooter to play off of Irving (Matthews), and decent spot up shooter with potential to expand his game (Batum), and either Miller to back-up Irving for one year, or to cut him and save on his contract. The Blazers, IMO, should pick Kanter over Knight even if both are available, but that's another story, although Kanter does have knee issues, allegedly. Plus, perhaps Davis would be motivated enough playing with a playoff team that he would get back in shape.
Enes Kanter last week in Chicago
Cleveland was willing to take on baron Davis' contract 3 months ago from the Clippers, on the assumption they were getting "just another lotto pick". In other words, they were willing to pay his salary for the 8th pick. Now you think they'd want to get out of his salary, and would be willing to use the first or 4th pick to do it? No chance. They are rebuilding swith picks, and Baron was the cost of doing business. Maybe, if they are taking Kanter or Valinucias(sp?), and Irving, we could get them to do Camby and Miller for Davis and Varejao. But they are very unlikely to move one of those picks just to save some money.
Do you think the #4 pick is going to give them a NBA ready player? I would think Batum is worth more than a #4 pick IMO.
That's too much for the 4th. Taking Davis is huge. If we are taking Davis, then no way would I give up both Batum and Wes. This is a weak draft and I think Batum straight up is worth the 4th (or the 4th and a filler contract). But taking Davis from them would either mean more coming back (the 32nd pick or some decent player) and certainly not both Batum and Wes. As far as subbing Miller for Camby, if the Blazers did that then they would have to grab a PG (Knight) and then hope and prey that they were able to play real minutes right out the gate.
Sure, they can get an NBA ready player at 4. Or, they can get a guy who is forced to play, alongside Irving, and grow with it.
Getting Batum and Matthews, proven NBA players, isn't a bad thing. Plus, Wesley is relatively affordable, and I can't see Nic getting much more than the MLE when he becomes a RFA. Miller can either be a mentor to Irving, or a salary dump. Cho wants to build for the future; getting Kanter might set the team back a bit next year, but an Oden/Kanter/Camby/LMA frontcourt would be fun for a year. Plus, Roy returns as a starter, but hopefully with a greater appreciation for where his game is at, meaning above-average offensive player, and not MVP-type player.
I actually don't know. I haven't paid attention to the college season; so I don't know about any player. From what I read; the draft is NBA ready players from 1-3. Outside of that, it's a crap shoot.
Sorry, I replied before reading the entire thread, so was mainly commenting to the initial few posts, of just getting a pick to take on davis, and did not read scenarios of Batum, Wes, Wallace, etc.
