The last time there was a supposedly "weak draft", we pulled Brandon Roy and LaMarcus Aldridge. I think drafts that are thought to be weak present an opportunity to weal and deal for a diamond in the rough or an overlooked talent. This reminds me a lot of the 2006 draft, and I find it funny that our team is linked with a young shooting guard.
word you try and acquire picks in a weak draft and deal picks in a stacked draft, supply and demand, and as long as your scouting is top notch, profit
It will be interesting to see what Cho will do with this draft. I want to see us move up if the price is right. I could see us dealing Rudy or Camby if the price is right.
This. Except I'd say in the "strong" drafts you still work with 2nd-rounders to look for falling stars (Blair) or no-name lottery tickets (Redd, Ginobili)
Well in Seattle, he was really aggressive. I wonder how much of this "conservatism" has to do with not wanting to get canned as apposed to his normal style of management?
Why is Cho considered cautious? Other than the stupid jokes made of him analyzing for months on end. He made two trades in his first season. Everyone nut's on KP trading a few draft picks. Cho has already made as many non draft trades, it seems, as KP. What did KP do. Wafer, and Camby? Outside of the draft. Which Cho has not ran for us yet. What deals did KP make? Cho made an impact trade(Wallace) in less than a season. But, don't let that stop everyone from making the Cho is analyzing this or that jokes. I know MM loves them.
With Vulcan in charge one has to tip toe around the Blazer organization. KP and other(s) fired for having the wrong agent... I had a talk one time with an ex Blazer who worked for the team and he liked Allen but hated Vulcan. Later on he was canned as well.
Good points. Cho did pull off the Wallace trade and it was a darned good one. I was alluding to draft day. We shall see. I'm hoping for the best.
Maybe I'm not tracking real well here. I agree that teams are more willing to trade out of the lottery in a bad draft, but just because more movement is possible, I'm not so sure I'd get my hopes up that if the Blazers do move into the lottery that those picks don't turn into Ammo or Marvin Williams part 2. Something tells me it was as much luck as it was shrewd scouting that was able to tab 2 of the top 3 players in the 2006 draft. Is lighting likely to strike twice? We'll see what happens I guess.
