Today marks the 90th Anniversary of The Battle of the somme, which was the bloodiest battle of any war of all time, and because England are playing in the world cup today it is getting 90% of TV coverage, Wimbledon is getting about 5% and the rest is "dedicated" to 125,000 men killed in this particular battle, which was ment to end world war 1, this shows that people now are putting too much emphasis on sport, rather than the lives of innocent men, I personally think this is wrong...very wrongMy great grandfather actually survived the battle, but he got shrapnel in his head and survived...
Re: Disgraceful!! Well 125,000 men dead is 125,000 less from the world, 20,000 killed on teh first day were irish, 100,000 were english and 25,000 were french...I think remembering them is more important than a lousy football match...
Re: Disgraceful!! We live in a society dominated by entertainment. That means movies, TV shows, and sports. Things like this tend to go unnoticed.And can you really say it's a bad thing? I dno't want to remember that kind of thing

Re: Disgraceful!! I don't know, people die, we have a memorial day but why would I want to see a memorial on TV than the biggest sporting event in the world? Blame tennis for taking that extra 5%.
Re: Disgraceful!! Ive been watching tennis actually, cause they don't show the memorial and history stuff cause of the footbal, ENGLAND GOT PUT OUT :yahoo: a lot of civilians were killed which tipped america into joining the war in Europe, I do hope you all knew that.

Re: Disgraceful!! 120,000 isnt the bloodiest battle ever. I know 400,000 people died in gettyburg alone, and that wasnt even the biggest battle of the civil war, much less the entire worlds history.
