I don't think the team should "mortgage the future" if that means bad deals that inefficiently spend what young trade chips they have. To use the term you like a lot, the team should always be striving for the best NPV deals. If that means bringing in a talented prospect who may not make them better this year, fine. If that means bringing in a talented veteran, fine. Basically, talent should always be conserved (or increased, when that's possible)...whether it takes the form of youth or veteran-osity. Intentionally getting worse for cap space is a very bad idea, IMO.
It sounds like it was Purely Allen and Cho ... maybe they got into a nerd fight about stats or something?
Oh please, so much had to go wrong to find ourselves in the mess under Nash that I think it's safe to say we'll never sink that low again. I know we all love some good hyperbole and gnashing of teeth, but give that period its due - an unrivaled cluster in our franchise history.
There is definitely a correlation between Blazer ups and downs and the stock market. This knowledge is how I made my fortune, and you can too. Send for my free booklet.
Actually, I think this guarantees that Oden is staying. Cho had no emotion/ego invested in Oden, and rightly didn't want to hand him an extension he hadn't earned. Miller was the one always fawning over Oden and talking about how he was still a big part of the team's future plans. For the record, I think Cho was right, and Miller needs to go back to selling shoes.
