Jaynes speculates that Cho wasn't sold on the talent of this team and would much rather blow it up, something Paul didn't want to do.
I don't know if Jaynes came up with that on his own, or just borrowed, but I remember reading/hearing much the same kind of thing around the trade deadline. I can't say I disagree with his assessment (assuming that's how he felt). Aside from LMA who on this roster is worth building around or if they are worth keeping around how much gas is left in their tank (Miller, Wallace, Camby)?
KP trades Outlaw and Blake (popular, but over-rated) and gets fired. Cho trades Joel and Dante (popular, but over-rated) and he gets fired as well. Makes you wonder.
Wants to make sure other teams will give him a shot. Better not say shit! LOL How he truly feels? Probably pissed the fuck off.
How many title teams have "blown it up" to get to that point in the past 30 years? Blowing it up means moving LMA, Wallace, and Oden, at the very least, for either draft picks or expiring contracts, and then waiving Roy immediately if there is a legitimate amnesty clause that reduces cap space, and not just the luxury tax. I remember a billionaire who gave up his own arena during the last "blow up", and I remember literally getting free Lexus Club tickets many times during that period because they couldn't be sold. You were a Cho advocate. If Cho wanted to "blow it up", well, the last time that happened under his watch, the team moved from Seattle to OKC.
Larry Miller runs this team. Has made all personnel decisions since the day he was hired. This is when the baking stopped and KP was suddenly discarding his ingredients at Larry's bidding. Unwilling to serve as Larry's houseboy, Cho was shown the door.
I think he's right. Around the trade deadline, Cho publicly announced he'd basically seen enough of the team and finally knew how was going to sculp the thing. He didn't specify if that meant tearing down or simply tweaking, and it's never revealed what his master plan is. Reading between the lines, it looks like he wanted to re-make the team and Nate/Allen didn't. I'm not too bothered by Cho's dismissal because of this. It seems a legitimate and common reason for two parties to go separate ways, and it's not entirely clear which one is right.
and until about 12 hours ago was in the WCF. I agree, though, about the "blowing it up". I think that phrase gets overused, and in my mind means much what it does with your definition. Something like thinking LMA isn't going to be the PFotF, so we trade him for something like Kaman and a draft pick or Love or something. Or trading Wallace and Wesley for Baron Davis and the number one pick or something. I don't know that anyone's advocating that. Something like a philosophy shift from being Roy-centric to LMA-centric, even if both are on the team. Something like finding a mix of players who can play high-level defense. Building the depth of the team back up. Those kind of things that, while not wholesale changes, are a significant departure from where we are today.
Are Seattle fans enjoying the OKC run? I'll take a team in my city over it moving somewhere else after a rebuild. Plus, what you then go on to list as your ideal plan isn't a "blow-up" anyhow, so we agree. That woud be more of a "re-tool".
I think it's safe to say that this team is going nowhere fast! Paul Allen knows nothing about basketball, surrounds himself with people who know even less, and when he does stumble on to a decent GM fires him for vanity issues. I see Mr. No Knees Roys starting next year, instant chemistry issues with him and Andre again, LA's number plummeting, Oden gone, and the same old boring offense again and no defense on the other end. There's no other way it can be if Roy is the go to player. Offense slows to a crawl and Roy does not play defense on the other end. Crash will be lost, Batum wont get better, and Mathews will be pissed! The best thing that could happen to this team is for Paul Allen to sell this team to Portland and let's take it over like the Packer fans have done for years in Green Bay. Than we could get real basketball minds in here to make a real championship team. Paul Allen will NEVER bring Portland a championship! In the meantime he'll make this a place where no decent GM's or Superstars want to come. At the same time in a tough economy and Miami seemingly be groomed for a five year championship run I think Blazer fans might find better things to do with their money, I know I will!
BTW- It would seem with Larry Miller's background he'd have more in common with Phil Knight than Paul Allen. Atleast than he could be a YES MAN for an Oregon Product instead of a Washington one. hahaha!
