<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Carmelo Anthony To Stay With Nuggets; Says He'll Accept Contract 1st July, 2006 - 3:35 pm ESPN.com - The first player of the offseason to make a verbal commitment on signing a new contract is Denver Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony. The Nuggets formally offered Anthony a five-year maximum contract extension worth an estimated $80 million on Saturday morning and Anthony didn't hesitate to accept. "We've informed the Nuggets that we intend to sign on July 12," Calvin Andrews, Anthony's agent, told ESPN.com. "Carmelo is very, very grateful for the commitment [owner Stan Kroenke] has made to him.</div> I'm glad that all these top 1st rounders are signing extensions with the team that drafted them.

You should post it in the general considering it's such a big signing.

What can I say? Carmelo should have been atleast a one time All Star by now, and he will only continue to improve

Melo is going to have a huge year next season I predict, and he deserves nothing less than the max. Next year he will make is All Star berth guarenteed.

Baffling. But I am glad he signed this, and I agree with BCB in that I am glad these guys are signing extensions. I'm sure Balla is relieved, same with the Nuggets organization. Next year, he will be an All-Star.

Nuggets are probably relieved about this. Without this, they are in the dumps. He's the only consistent one in their offense.

Hopefully Carmelo will leave that organization once he realises he won't be winning there...

I think Melo is going to start being a bigger impact for the Nuggets.

Good to see that he resigns with the team that drafted him. And with an addition of a shooter to this roster, they will be alot more competitive and i think that Carmelo knows that. This was the right move

Great for Melo I am happy for him. Now all he has to do is wait until the 12th to sign on the line. I actually was hoping Lebron, Wade, Melo, Bosh, ect would not sign with the team, and be free agents later on and go to another team. But I knew they would probably stay with there teams. It be crazy though if they all had switched teams.Melo should have been in the all star game last season. Next season he will make it unless he get's a injury. The Denver fans I am sure are very happy.Congrats

It sucks for him to be in the West. This guy got robbed of not getting into the All-Star game. The West is just filled with tons of great forwards. Anyways, he deserves it. That Denver franchise was screwed before he arrived to the team.

Why do you guys care so much about all-star appearences, they don't matter.

They do. If I go out, and play with the best Forwards in the league, and then I am un-rewarded for it come mid-season, I'd be pissed. You guys forget, these guys are humans. If you are un-rewarded after 45+ games for your great efforts, you'll be pissed and angry. You feel disrespected. Bottom line is, it has happened to Carmelo too many a times

Yeah he got overpaid. I don't think he is worth more than 11 million a year but there are a lot of overpaid players in the nba.
