http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=6599782 fire adleman, and bring in mchale...am i missing something? lol
The man is a terrible GM, but he's demonstrated a pretty effing good ability to coach in the NBA. I wouldn't be shocked if he's pretty successful there. Ed O.
This is a legitimate question because I never paid much attention but why was he a good coach? Its hard to judge because the T'Wolves blow and have tons of holes in their roster. Every time I hear him speak on TNT or NBATV or wherever he is I instantly think "total moron". Great player but I just can't see anyone taking him seriously and I'm never impressed by anything he has to say.
yeah he has a crappy record, albeit on a crappy team, and when he coached them earlier with garnet he was like 18-12 or something
He has about the same winning % as Nate did with a shitty team, so consider him one of the best old coaches in the NBA
Rick Adelman. Fired by Houston, rejected by the Lakers, hasn't been to an NBA Finals in 20 years, desired by myopic Portland fans.
Hundreds of other coaches can say the same thing. Meanwhile, the mastermind Erik Spoelstra is coaching a team to the Finals.
Kevin McHale = As Coach: 2 Yrs, 39-55, .415 W-L% Nate McMillan = As Coach: 11 Yrs, 458-429, .516 W-L% Rick Adelman = As Coach: 20 Yrs, 945-616, .605 W-L%
If you look at how his teams did before he coached them and then after he took over for them, his record is pretty good. As a GM, he was a disaster, of course. No argument there Ed O.
Once again, Daryl Morey proves he's among the best in the business. By hiring McHale as coach, he has solidified his hold on the GM position. After all, if Morey were fired, McHale would be the first one demanding to be made GM. Job security, thy name is McHale.
ive heard the "he made them better than they were" argument before, but really, when the gm starts coaching, i would assume there would be a small up-tick in the play, you are literally playing for your job in alot of cases haha. and in general, a coaching shakeup will usually get that same result regardless of the coach coming in. he took a team that was .500 and went 19-12 he took a team that was 4-15 and went 20-43 thats the extent of his coaching experience if i havent missed anything
And he drafted Garnett. Opened and closed his GM career with great moves...unmitigated disaster in between.
Definitely better to end up with Love than Mayo, but if we're going to judge him then he should have drafted Russell Westbrook. Jefferson and Love were never going to work together, and Westbrook's turned out to be the second-best player from that draft. Ed O.
Probably the second-greatest human being in the history of the NBA, after Bob Whitsitt. Plus, he has the face of an English gentleman, not of an Eastern European like so many honkies in the NBA. Even Whitsitt's nose, I must admit, is rather pinched, and his chin too sharp. McHale has classic Anglo-Saxon looks. He would have been perfect to teach the still-uncoached Aldridge how to play.
