I get what you're saying, but I'm not sure that one of the detractions should be that, while playing in the Olympics at 17 on a silver-medal-winning team, he was outplayed by 2 NBA PGs in their prime. I've never seen a 20-y/o put on muscle. That "lanky" thing is going to haunt him A long-armed guy who's a terror in the passing lanes seems to me to be the best bet for D in today's "touch a guard and it's a foul" league. Much more than Jerryd and Armon's hyperactive nothingness.
Rudy was a "terror" in the Spanish passing lanes as well, and had even more awards than Rubio. Oddly, Rudy never filled out, yet he was a much better player against NBA competition than Rubio ever was, regardless of age. Maybe I'm wrong, but I smell a bust who would have been cut by his Spanish League team, and wants to sign a guaranteed NBA contract before the lockout.
Rudy's list of accolades. Remember, many posters were advocating trading Roy in his prime to clear room for Rudy at BBF.
Is Rubio the Freddie Adu of the NBA? He'll be 21 when the regular season is supposed to start, and his game is regressing as his peers catch up to him physically.
Mills also played better than Rubio at the 2010 FIBA World Championship. Rubio - Mills PPG 4.4 - 13.8 RPG 3.1 - 1.7 ORPG 0.6 - 0.2 DRPG 2.6 - 1.5 ASPG 5.1 - 4.2 TOPG 3.1 - 2.8 AST/TO 2.4 - 2.3 FG2P 36.7% - 47.2% MPG 25.1 - 26.7 FG3P 11.8% - 31.4% FT 85.7% - 84.2%
Have you compared Brandon Jennings' numbers from his last year in Italy to his numbers his first year in the NBA?
They just need a white SG and SF and they've got an all-white starting five! Rudy and Claver for Beasley?
It would be odd. Did Adu generate buzz by dominating his peers, or by looking great against actual grown men? Rubio has done the latter. That said, Rubio seems to have stalled a little. I think he was at his best playing for DKV Juventut because they played a run'n'gun style. Both the Spanish National Team and Barcelona have structured themselves around Juan Carlos Navarro, a ball-dominant SG who is at his best in a halfcourt game. I think that's part of the problem for Rubio, and probably the reason he's coming over to the NBA despite the lockout. So long as you think of him as "a poor man's Rajon Rondo" I think expectations shouldn't be too high.
Twolves where 10th in the league in scoring, so maybe there is more hope for Rubio than I thought. Although I dont see a team built around Kevin Love ever being a good run'n'gun team. Twolves are dead last in points against, I dont see that improving with Rubio.
Love is actually perfect for that type of team. He is an elite rebounder and an excellent outlet passer. If the fast break isn't there, set it up and go through Love on offense.
That's what I was going to say as I was reading this thread. Flynn doesn't seem to fit on that team, so it certainly can't hurt to bring Rubio over except that they have to pay him.
I think Flynn is going to be a decent PG as well. Maybe just not in the triangle? I'd love to see the Blazers make a deal with Minny invloving Rudy and Flynn. Rubio would like that, and we would get a potentially good PG.
I kind of like that idea; Minnesota might be the only team in the league now from whom we could get any value back for Rudy. Flynn is still only 22 and has only been in the league two years, seems like worth taking a chance on.
agree, seems like a no brainer, certainly worth it to us to give Flynn another chance - especially getting him out of that triangle offense Also, Flynn had a very good rookie season, was injured and has an awful year this season. Just based upon his first yr he's worth a shot Year Team G Min M A Pct M A Pct M A Pct Off Def Tot Ast TO Stl Blk PF PPG 2009-10 MIN 81 28:53 4.9 11.8 41.7 1.0 2.7 35.8 2.8 3.3 82.6 0.3 2.1 2.4 4.4 2.9 1.0 0.0 1.2 13.5 2010-11 MIN 53 18:30 2.0 5.6 36.5 0.6 1.9 31.0 0.6 0.8 76.2 0.2 1.2 1.5 3.4 2.1 0.6 0.1 1.1 5.3 Career Totals (Full) 134 24:48 3.8 9.3 40.5 0.8 2.4 34.3 1.9 2.3 81.7 0.3 1.7 2.0 4.0 2.6 0.9 0.0 1.2 10.3
Ya, Flynn had decent numbers for a rookie when he wasn't in the triangle. Not sure what else we would need to add for Flynn though?
