Basketball purists were stunned last night when that big slow white guy, Dirk Nowitski, blew right by Chris Bosh for an easy lay-up to win the game. No, he didn't beat Bosh with a jump shot or a dunk--he beat him with foot speed! This may set NBA basketball back 50 years!!!!
It was a thing of beauty. For a second I thought he laid it up too hard, but it hit the front rim and stayed in.
If Larry Bird didn't set the NBA back, Nowitzki won't either. Bird was even slower! (You probably have never heard of Larry Bird, because this country has a shameful habit of hiding the achievements of white males. But check basketball-reference...he was good.)
I didn't see the play or the game... but are you sure Dirk wasn't trying to run right into him and Bosh accidentally moved?
You're right. At 55 and with a bad back, even Larry Legend wouldn't now be the star he was then. That said, I think even at 55 he could almost pull off James Jones' role in MIA.
Yeah, I've referenced that before, most recently about Brian Scalabrine. That type of widespread ignoring of white players is why I wasn't sure people would know who Bird was without explanation.
I missed a Scalabrine reference? Then again, you have people today who never saw Jordan play in a Bulls uniform posting on here, so maybe you're right. HCP, however, doesn't have that excuse.
On this board, white players aren't ignored--they're just mocked and ridiculed. It's racist and yet it goes on all the time.
