Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

hmm If POR traded with DET for Rip Hamilton and the #8 and offloaded a vet (Matthews?). That might be worth pursuing IMO....

a SF tandem of Wallace and Rip could be pretty good for a few years, Rip has what 2 years left? at big money. It also opens up POR to deal Batum or they could move him to SG, opens up starting SG to Roy, frees time for Rudy, unless they deal him for a pick which I suspect they will....

POR could take Burks at #8 then or Kemba Walker if he slipped, perhaps even steal Jimmer right out from under UTA nose.

I don't think returning Roy to the starting SG role is a good move, but if POR mgmt feels he is still a part of the future then this could be the way to go....

Hell maybe you dangle Batum and #21 to get another top 10 pick and get both Burks and Walker\Fredette, then deal Rudy to NY for the #17 and get your big man there, be it Faried or a guy I like Keith Benson, Lucas Noguiera or Jeremy Tyler.

    PG Miller, Walker*, Johnson?
    SG Roy, Burks*, Williams
    SF Wallace, Hamilton, Babbitt
    PF Aldridge, Johnson
    C Camby, Oden, Benson*

Then in free agency go after a b\u PF with the MLE (Carl Landry, Kris Humphries, Rony Turiaf (if he opts), Troy Murphy, Glen Davis?, Kenyon Martin?) or bring over Freeland or resign Pendergraph.

b\u PF to me is a much easier position to address than C (especially since you shouldn't count on Oden's health), so IMO drafting a big man (C) would take preference over PF (all things being equal of course).

Or of course you could try a poison pill contract on a player like Marc Gasol and force MEM to match it, considering they have a lot tied up in Rudy gay & Zach Randolph already...
longshot but that strategy hurt UTA...or a guy like DeAndre Jordan, a little more risky, but would the Clippers match? Or try to go the FA route and go after Samuel Dalembert, Nenad Kristic, Jeff Foster or Spencer Hawes? and then draft a PF.

I really like Faried. There are tons of needs across the roster, but a complimentary guy to play behind Aldridge would be a nice contrast in the front court.

Not a bad start. Now only if they can get a real coach to develop this young talent.

That's cool to read because it reminds me of watching Bulls games on national TV with my dad before the Warriors would come on and he'd always rave about Rodman more than MJ or Pippen too. He wasn't even a big basketball buff but I just remember he would harp on Rodman and how he rebounded, defended, got under other players' skin, had insane motor, etc. it made Rodman one of my favorite players growing up and even briefly made me a Lakers fan when he played with the Lakers. Never been a great bball player but to this day I'm always obsessed with rebounding and, if possible, getting under guys' skin.

Have to disagree with the blog quoted above; Andre Miller's main value may be as a money saver since a team receiving him in a draft day exchange could decline the team option for next year. So Washington might be interested but not just for that amount of savings, might require exchanging Camby's shorter contract for Rashard Lewis' longer contract.

Does Faried project to be a great defender? Because while Rodman was known as a rebounder, he derived a huge amount of his value as an all-world defender. (Rodman was also underrated as a smart offensive player. He couldn't score beyond basic put-backs, but he was a smart passer in the Bulls' triangle offense.)

So Kanter's most recent basketball he barely played off the bench in the Turkish Basketball League and he might go number 1? What the fuck?

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

I think his absolute ceiling is #3 to Utah. DX has him going 6th to the Wiz at the moment.

Alec Burks is one of the guys I think is worth trading up for. His projected to go 12th right now to Utah, but I think he's a top 5 player in this draft.

Has a true position in the NBA in a draft filled with tweeners. Good ball-handler and passer with already a great feel and pace to his game at 19. Not a great shooter at Colorado but showed decent mechanics, just needs to add strength and balance which should help him mainly when shooting off the dribble.

A knack for rebounding the ball and has the leaping ability and length to grab rebounds in traffic and even more valuable since his ball handling and court vision give him the ability to lead a fast break the other way.

The knock against him aside from his spotty shooting is the lack of effort defensively. He had the quickness and length to be a disruptor at times at the college level, but he will definitely have to up his focus and intensity if he wants to see a lot of minutes his rookie year.

Not sure where he fits with the roster at this point though.

DXpress updated their comparison for Bismack Biyombo and it's almost as bad as when they compared Andrew Bynum to Shaq:

Bismack Biyombo - Best case: 6'9" Dwight Howard

    o0

Someone ought to let DX know that Dwight Howard actually is 6'9"

He's 6'9" barefoot. Basketball players play in shoes. He was measured at 6'10.25" in shoes.

Bismack and Dwight are only an inch apart. Not much of a difference at all.

They might as well have said a "6-9 Dikembe Mutombo"

Hell, to further your point, As long as they have adequate height and bulk, it's really more about standing reach, vertical jump and how much of a quick-twitch athlete a guy is that determines a player's ability to play "goalie" around the rim. If Biyombo is being favorably compared to dwight, I'm guessing he's got some of those essential traits in his DNA.

He reminds me of less-freakish Oden.
