The Star's Doug Smith is reporting Jay Triano has been let go as the head coach of the Toronto Raptors. Triano, the first Canadian head coach in NBA history, who has also been a prominent figure coaching the Canadian national mens team and assisting the American team, leaves the Raptors with an unenviable 87-142 (.380) record and obviously no playoff appearances. Update: the Raptors had an option on Jay Triano's contract to keep him for the 2011-12 season which they have not exercised; translation: smell you later. PJ Carlesimo is not being considered, according to early reports.
Great news. Is Adlemen still available? Doubt he wants to come this mess though. Maybe Lawrence Frank?
Adleman didn't want to coach a treadmill team, plus guys like him and Sloan are old as dirt and probably don't want to piddle away their remaining years. The JVG/Frank supporters have me confused. Don't people remember how ugly their basketball brand is? Do we need more KO years? Right now Duane Casey seems to be a strong candidate, speaking of KO. Casey was one of the guys we were considering way back when we hired O'Neill.
Colangelo claims he wants a coach with a defensive focus. IMO that is the right direction for the team. Apparently Frank was a solid defensive coach with the Nets. I can't remember much of his time in NJ except the 0-18 start...
Triano felt more like a consolation prize. Glad he was let go. It wasn't fair to him and the fans. Why do people want Van Gundy? I dont even think he'd ever consider the Raptors.
