...one of the worst sports viewing experiences of my life took place.
People say Dallas has endured failure in the playoffs, but their pain is nothing compared to that of Blazer fans.
At 7 years old, all I remember was Jordan shrugging his shoulders, My mom screaming in Tears, and my favorite video game soon to follow: Electronic Arts Bulls Vs. Blazers
I remember that well. Of course, being from Chicago, I likely remember it a bit differently than most here. And agree on Bulls vs. Blazers. One of my top games ever.
FWIW, this was awful defense.
Fuck, that twisted the knife. When I lived in Chicago, they had an advertisement on WGN for the Bulls with the tag line that people should watch because (cue Jordan shrugging) "You never know what's going to happen." I felt like Promethius. Every time my liver grew back I'd see that commercial and it would get eaten again. It's Cliffy walking dejectedly in the background that's the cherry on top.
That game killed me! Loved the Bulls, but these were MY Blazers! I thought after all the bullshit from past couple years we were going to finally get one!!! Fuckin' Uncle Cliffy and his weak ass rotation defense!
19 years ago tonight, I'm guessing you couldn't name the starting line-up of the Blazers for Game 1 of the NBA Finals.
Probably not. I wasn't a Blazers fan then. I knew the main players of the time, Drexler, Porter, Kersey, Williams, Duckworth and Robinson, but I didn't follow them specifically. Is this a passive aggressive announcement that I stepped on your feelings with my light-hearted flippancy? I do apologize. I thought the wounds had scarred over. I shared the 2000 WCF meltdown, though, if we can bond over that?
Without looking, I would say Clyde,TP,Jerome,Buck and Duck. Cliffy,Ainge,Danny Young, first 3 guys off the bench?
I am not sure which is more painful, the '92 loss to the Bulls or the '00 loss to the Lakers. Sure in '92 we were actually in the finals, but in '00 there was a very weak Indiana Pacers team in the finals which was pretty much a sure win against for whoever took the west.
Ugh... and remember MJ was sick as a dog with the flu too? I thought for a minute I'd caught it from him through the TV because the whole thing made me feel sick.
The '91 swat out of bounds by Magic and the Sean Elliott Memorial Day Miracle shot from '99 are pretty painful memories as well.
