Allen is becoming a national punchline in NBA circles, and he's worried about a rumor involving KP. Does this mean that KP pwns Paul Allen?
It's pretty obvious this franchise fears the greatness that is Kevin Pritchard Only other time they've done something like this is Warkentien. Someone draw some conclusions from that.
Sure there was - we as fans want to be in the know, so they informed us. I appreciate it. How is shooting down a rumor unprofessional? Some of you just want to bitch.
What, you had expectations that Allen would act -- I dunno -- professional for a change? Oh, you is funny, funny guy.
"Fear the greatness that is KP" .... hmmm, not so sure about that, but I do think it's personal for Allen (for whatever reason). Which probably helps explain why he is such a shitty businessman.
They could have denied the rumor with tact. Larry doing multiple interviews to go to the lengths to deny it. PA saying "Blazers would never hire" him just makes it seem like they're going out of their ways to distance themselves from KP (for seemingly no reason at all). This, after they embarrassingly fired him before the draft last year. Whatever the beef between KP and PA is, it will hopefully come out in July once KP's contract ends.
I'm pretty sure than any non-fiction book KP writes about his last year here would not paint him in anything close to a good light.
PA has 'FUCK YOU' money. He can do whatever the hell he wants. He obviously has a grudge against KP and will do whatever it takes to keep the rat in the hole (in his eyes). I like having Paul and it's a hell of a lot better than having some petty owner like Donald Sterling.
There are rumors all the time about the Blazers, or any team, for that matter. What is unique in this case is Allen's specific response to this rumor. Is it irrational to notice that this rumor compelled Paul Allen to make a response, and to send out his attack dog Larry Miller for a few interviews? Seems like basic observation to me. If anyone is acting irrational in this case, it is Paul Allen for being so butthurt about a dumb rumor that he refutes it on multiple levels. At least Pritchard has the professional decency to not comment on the hell that it must be working for the George Steinbrenner/Al Davis of the NBA (minus their titles).
Allen is petty when it comes to his business relationships. I don't know how anyone can arrive at any other conclusion. Unless you meant something other than 'petty'?
Are you kidding with the Pritchard has professional decency? As a fan I will take having a "irrational" owner like PA over a "professional decency" GM like KP. Reality is KP is a dime a dozen and PA is one of the richest owner in all of sports who is wiling to try and buy a title. So what if PA wants to tweet about a rumor?
Unfortunately, you can't buy a title. If you could, the Knicks and Blazers would be in the finals every year. You can't just throw money at the team and sit back and watch the titles roll in. You need to hire the right people and then let them do their jobs. Unfortunately, Paul Allen seems incapable of doing either. BNM
I don't see a problem calling out Canzano for his "sources". I mean, honestly, PA's doing the beat writers' job for them. Canzano said he has a "source" that says KP might be re-hired. From the mouth (tweet) of PA himself, he says that's complete BS. Maybe it's not a big deal because it's a hack columnist in a backwater town compared to some, but if Broussard or Screamin' A or Bucher got showed up for an outright lie like this, people would be laughing at the "reporter", not the subject. And as far as MIller, I'm not his biggest fan, but saying that they're not rehiring anyone might mean just that. They'd heard that someone was reporting that, and wanted to quash the rumor.
True, is takes a special mix to win a title with only a handful of teams being able to do it in the last decade. But I do think you can throw money around and make a small market team into a consitenet playoff team . . . and maybe with a little luckyou can throw money around and buy a ticket to the NBA championship series a la Cuban and the Mavs. PA was colse to a championship before. I think will get one before he is done.
Unfortunately, you can't rush the process. It takes time. Like I said, you need to hire the right people and then let them do their jobs. Either Paul isn't hiring the right people, or he isn't giving them the time to build a winner - I suspect it's quite a bit of both. This organization lacks direction and lacks stability. It seems like Paul Allen is desperate for a quick fix. Short of falling ass backwards into a superstar, or two, that WANT to come to Portland and force their way here, there is no quick fix. Hiring and firing GMs repeatedly doesn't seem like a good way to build a winner. And, the more of these shenanigans Paul Allen pulls the harder it will be to convince a top notch GM that working for Paul Allen is a good career move. BNM
