We have a chocolate lab that is 6 years old. I built him a very roomy dog run on the side of our house when we moved into this house. Great dog..... great with the kids.... does what he is told....... BUT when our new next door neighbors walk on there side of the fence or every time they come home, he barks like CRAZY!!!!!! I am actually thinking of getting rid of him it has gotten so bad. Wondering if any of you have successfully gotten their own dogs to stop barking or have any suggestions.

It means your new neighbors are evil, the dog can sense that. Call the police and report them.

C'Mon guys...... I need help! He barked at the old neighbors too. They were actually assholes, so I didn't care. I have read about the shock collar and the citronella spray collar. Says the spray one works for a few weeks, then they adapt.

I dont know how well they work... but I think they have those things that go off that only dogs can hear when they bark. Although that could suck if other dogs bark and it hurts your dog's ears.

Move the dog run. There may be a fence there but that's not what the dog sees. He sees them as a threat. It may help if you go visit your neighbors with your dog and have them get close with him and give him treats. That way he'll listen when they tell him to shut the fuck up.

I'd move if I were you.

Cash it all in and treat your family to a heavenly life here in Beautiful Central Oregon.

Get a nicer house and a couple acres for your dog to run and bark all he wants.

Move. Become their next-door neighbors again. If you can't find them, ask a realtor to find you some new assholes to live next to.

Then you'll feel good again when he barks at the neighbors.

We used to have neighbor dogs that narked like mad. With their permission I gave each dog a hot dog every night. After a week or so as soon as they saw it was me the barking stopped and begging began. End of problem.

Ok. I also spanked my kids when they did what they weren't supposed to. Now I have a great dog, and 3 awesome kids.

It's just the idea of electrically shocking an animal to get it to be more obedient when there are other methods available. For some reason, it just doesn't sit well with me. That said, using it in the bedroom...
