Pretty bad trade for GS, Brian.

I was thinking about Matthews instead of Batum. I like both but would prefer to send Matthews for the sole reason that Monta can obviously play SG as well as PG. So from purely a minutes standpoint I would rather keep Batum. And Wesley does fit GS's needs.....

Maybe. If someone thought Roy was still able to "come back", and that same person thought the Biedrins was more injured than Oden and hated his contract, then it's plausible, though.

You would need for the Portland medical staff to be traded to GS first, but ya, in that scenerio, it is plausable. Anything is really? Teams have all different reasons for making deals. Wallace for Joel, Dante and a late pick in two drafts? So I shouldn't poo poo it so fast

I think Wes over Batum as well, potentially. Wes gives them decent size at the SG position. They already have Wright at SF, who did well for them last season. Something around Wes, Rudy, Babbit and more small salary, Armon, perhaps, would at least work financially. Rudy could take a buy out and return to Spain if he desired. I know a deal centered around Wes for Monta is not a good deal vaue wise for GS. If they were motivated to move Monta, struggling to find a partner, and wanteda bigger SG, however, it isn't an awful place to start.

I bet Mark Jackson would like to have Miller instead of filler to go with Wes. He played PG at an old age and listening to him talk highly of Andre and Kidd during the Port/Dallas series makes me believe he would like a veteran PG for his first year of coaching.

    You never know......

I'd love to see POR get Ellis, if they could swing a deal including Matthews, Camby and thier choice of Rudy, Williams or Babbit?

POR takes back Biedrins contract with Ellis. Biedrins is overpaid and injury prone, but younger and certainly serviceable as a b\u for POR with Oden and LA who will probably play some center next year in spots. Ellis gives POR that player who can create 1v1, something they desperately need.

This also allows POR some flexibility to deal Batum to move up in the draft and go after a PG (Knight, Walker) if they choose to do so or via another trade. If Rudy isn't part of the deal, he could be offloaded draft day for a mid teens pick perhaps. If Batum is moved, POR still has Wallace as the starter, Babbit (if he isn't dealt) and could bring over Claver, plus a player to pursue with the MLE....either at PF or SF

I agree he has the tools. If he wanted to dedicate to being a point guard, and not get caught up in his stats and his itchy trigger finger (IOW, Andre Miller's approach to the game), I think he could. If he wanted to dedicate himself to improving his defense, he probably could do that too. He'd have to buy into it.

I took it to be two people they were interested in, not necessarily that they would expect them both in return, but I dunno.

If I am Golden State I want Batum as part of the deal.

Anyone who would trade Batum for Ellis should be GM-ing in a rotisserie league, not the NBA.

Memories are short around here. After seeing yet another Batum disappearing act in the Finals, getting the #8 scorer in the NBA for him would be a steal.

I'm sorry but the "potenial" tag on Batum doesn't work for me at this point. He's got no handle and a very limited set of offensive tools.

Not to speak for e_b, but I think his point is that Monta is a guy that racks up stats. Batum is a guy that helps win games, plays defense, etc.

If you are the Blazers, you hate to lose Batum, BUT if you are keeping Gerald Wallace you can afford to trade Batum. Not sure how I would feel about losing Batum or how Monta fits with what the Blazers are doing, but I could see why the Blazers might have interest in Monta's scoring.

I'm just not a fan. Ellis is one of those guys who has flashy scoring stats, but won't ever make his team better, IMO. I think people tend to minimize what Batum does for the Blazers on the defensive end of the court.

Couldn't have (didn't) said it better myself. I don't have a problem with trading Batum, but we'd better be getting back a starting quality PG or big man for him.

At first glance, I thought the title read: "Blazers interested in Monia"

    Yikes.

I suppose. Ellis can be a beast of a scorer in this league which we sorely lack at the wing positions right now. Batum "Could" be better than Ellis someday, but I hope we could win now. At this point in time, Ellis is the superior player, defense or no defense.

Wesley and Batum would probably be fair value ... what affect it would actually have in the win-loss column is tough to say, because when you get right down to it, this would only further imbalance the Roster-Coach dynamic -- a stable full of full-court players held back by one of the most down-tempo, half-court coaches the game has ever seen -- I don't see how this is going to work unless Nate leaves and he appears to have in his possession incriminating photos of Kolde, Allen and a donkey from their college days
