Hopefully Paul Allen Will Learn Something from Mark Cuban

If it's only 'patience' and 'consistency', I'll be thrilled.

 

Cuban is always changing over his roster. In 09-10the Mavs had 18 players throughout the year, and in 10-11 9 of those players weren't there anymore, including rotation players and starters. Cuban fired Avery Johnson after winning coach of the year and taking the team to the Western Conference Finals. Patience and consistency in some areas, but not where it matters. Cuban is a mover and a shaker.

 

Cuban could have easily traded Dirk, and he has had a Nelson in the front office for years.

 

Nelson has been there a long time, thus in some areas. As for not trading Dirk, nor should Portland trade Aldridge at this point. LA made huge steps last season, and should be urged to continue to make steps as LaMonster. Build the team around him, which means much more up tempo, and go. Our roster right now is not good, and sitting on it will only lengthen the time between pretending and contending. Portland and KP made huge mistakes rebuilding this roster. They found two great players in the 06' draft that were about as different as they could be on the court. Then added pieces that benefitted one or the other. With Roy's knee issues, Portland needs to hone in on LA and build the entire team, including their coach, around him. If they add something better than him great, but that player should fit in with him.

I am all for patience, but when you have a broken model, patience isn't what you need.

 

LA, Knight will be here when the Blazers advance out of the first round. Title? LOL

 

Let's not jump into the usual nuttiness around here and start imparting some superior wisdom to Cuban and the Mavs' management. Nobody around the NBA was impressed enough with their roster to have them as a favorite to win a title this year. They were fortunate in that Dirk decided to re-sign with the team last summer rather than pulling a LeBron and looking for another team with more superstars. They were fortunate that the Lakers imploded and the Thunder couldn't get past their youthful jitters. They were fortunate that they didn't have any serious injuries other than Butler and that they were able to cover for that loss by getting better than expected play out of Peja when he signed on to help fill the void. They were fortunate that role players meshed and were able to contribute. They were fortunate that they got hot at the right time. And they were fortunate that the pressure of heightened media expectations messed with the Heat's mojo. In short...it was their year. Does anybody really think it will be again next season?

 

Twin Towers, LMA and Oden. If you think how great Dirk has become since 2006 it really gives me hope for LMA to become a superstar, he's definitely got the ability to become one.

 

This is a good point. I'm not sure LA will ever have the ball handling skills as Dirk, so maybe not a superstar, but certainly a star in this league

 

I guess if the lesson is that everybody but LMA should be expendable, then so be it.

 

Dallas has gone through three coaches during Nate's tenure. We've overturned the GM position, they've overturned the coaching position, and both of us have flipped our rosters. So because he's consistent in one area, he's the more consistent and patient? lol

 

I'm surprised that Carlisle isn't getting more credit. IMO, he did an incredible job managing the games and getting the Charmin-soft Mavs to commit to playing defense.

 

I'm still bitter we chose Mo Cheeks over Carlisle when Rick would have LOVED to come here with Sheed. fuckers. Fucking Paul Allen and his slow decision making ass.

 

Who paid for the playoff rally and Oden draft rally few years back?

 

Yes, he is, IMO. He let his front office people do the work, and found a coach that was able to make the best use of those parts. I'd much rather have front office stability as opposed to coaching stability.

 

The uptempo team lost the championship. The broken model is yours. It is unproven, without any basis in fact. You don't like the coach or the team as is, fine. You have no solution and only point out the negative. Uptempo isn't going to win a title. A different coach isn't going to win one either. Quit bitching and offer a solution.

 

Of course you would, because it's what we don't have. If the roles were reversed, I imagine you'd be saying Cuban's willingness to stick by a coach was what we need.

 

If the roles were reversed, then I'd be celebrating a championship as a Blazer fan. I find Dallas' front office stability to be a big part of their championship. If you read my posts about Paul Allen, it's the lack of vision from a basketball mind that troubles me the most.

 

Many fans and national media people criticized Cuban for building a good regular season team but not a good playoff team.

I guess the lesson should be to not panic after a couple of first round losses. I'm sure if fans had their way, Dallas would have had a new coach and probably traded some core players after last year's playoff.
