I don't think it's hard to argue against the point he's making there unless he doesn't use procedure to his political advantage, too, and I don't think that is the case with him. Nor should it be, if he can use process to help his constituents (as some members of the GOP were attempting to do).

For the record: I don't care at all whether he resigns or not. I think it's up to the people of New York who elected him last time. If they're cool with having him as their Representative, then I don't feel it's up to me.

This is where I stand. People get to choose their representatives, and if the folks of Brooklyn and Queens choose to embarrass themselves, it's their right.

cosign. I'm aware of the basic peripherals of this subject but besides enjoying a few throwaway jokes this doesn't hold my attention, especially since he's not my congressman. I haven't waded through this thread but I see it's nearly reached 300 responses which is amazing. As near as I can tell, no laws were broken right? Is it just a really slow news cycle that has kept this alive as I don't get the intrigue. Then again, I didn't stay tuned for long when Greg had his sexting public drama either. I guess I've never been much of a voyeur/gossip hound who is fascinated by the sex lives of others, but certainly those magazines are right by the checkout for a reason

    1) Whatever he did or didn't tweet is not illegal (unless it was to the 17 y/o, but whatever)
    2) Lying and coercing employees to lie is something that does seem to be against Congressional rules.

The two are distinctly different. It doesn't matter to me if #1 was tweeting dong pictures, or having an affair, or going to swinger parties, or being an alcoholic. All of those are "legal", though things I personally don't want my representative doing, but maybe NY constituents don't mind. #2 IS illegal, and is supposed to be punished. There isn't a difference to the Congressional ethics requirements (or my expectations as a citizen) whether you make up a story about hacked twitter accounts or whether you lied about taking a bribe or lied about covering up evidence in a crime. Those things that show basic lack of integrity by definition mean that you don't get to be a representative of the people to the government--whether it's in the military, in congress, or as a post office worker.

Democrats wrestle with how to end Weiner scandal

ASHINGTON (AP) -- With a defiant Rep. Anthony Weiner resisting calls from colleagues to quit and President Barack Obama saying he'd resign if he were in Weiner's shoes, House Democrats are wrestling with how to put the embarrassing online sex scandal behind them.

Democrats will meet behind closed doors Tuesday for the first time since the New York congressman admitted to sexually charged online relationships with several women and lying to hide his misdeeds. Frustration among Democrats is increasing as the scandal moves into its third week.

Democrats could try to oust the seven-term congressman from the House Democratic caucus or try to strip him of his committee assignment on the Energy and Commerce panel in hopes of persuading him to quit Congress.

Obama's blunt words could help Democrats trying to oust Weiner.

"I can tell you that if it was me, I would resign," Obama told NBC's "Today" show.

In a rare foray into a congressman's ethical conduct, Obama said Weiner's actions were "highly inappropriate."

"I think he's embarrassed himself. He's acknowledged that. He's embarrassed his wife and his family. Ultimately, there's going to be a decision for him and his constituents. I can tell you that, if it was me, I would resign," the president said in an interview to air Tuesday.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., told reporters Monday, "I hope that the president having spoken and some leaders in Congress speaking out that Congressman Weiner will hear this and know that it's in his best interest for him to leave Congress."

At this point, if I were Weiner, I would demand a job with a Wall Street firm to leave Congress.

Maybe Rahman and Obama could offer him one of those comfy government jobs.

He's unhirable for government work. To give up his power, what he's going to demand now is money. Put him in an MD slot for a few years and give him eight figures. He knows he's done; all that's left is to negotiate the severance package.

I was thinking more of his wife and her mimicking Lorena Bobbitt.

Meanwhile, the media doesn't cover Gingrich's nonprofit charity soliciting contributions, so it can pay big money to Gingrich's for-profit DVD company, to buy religious movies made by Gingrich, so Gingrich can take weeklong vacations in Europe causing his staffers to quit while he runs up credit card charges for jewelry in the hundreds of thousands of dollars...

The media hates sex, not theft, and dislikes one party, not the other.
