“I want that 21st pick,” Smith said Thursday. “That's what I'm here for now. I'm going to show them that I want that 21st pick. I would love to come in and play with (LaMarcus) Aldridge, Brandon Roy, and those guys because I know they need some help.” http://probasketballnews.com/story/?storyid=1429
Well, he's my new favorite player, along with Brandon Knight. i love that his attitude is to make Portland draft him, and I love Knight calling out Irving saying he wants to work out against him.
That's total BS on Knight's part. Remember, this is the guy who REFUSES TO WORK OUT AGAINST KEMBA WALKER. Of course he "wants" to work out against Irving - he's got nothing to lose! Irving's rated above him by EVERYONE. Every single draftable player ever says they want to work out against the players ranked above them. The "brave" ones are the ones willing to work out against players ranked lower.
Interesting strategy: acquire a draft pick - then use it to draft yourself! Of course, you have to have a team. Otherwise there's not much point. This is why NBA teams can't just sell their picks to anyone - I'm sure they'd be willing to.
JR Rider was a pretty good self-promoter as well. I like the kid's moxie, but I think it's all bullshit; anyone who has to say they've got a motor doesn't have a motor. He just wants a guaranteed contract.
