The Blazers are trying to get out of their contract with “The Game” (KXL, 750 AM), which runs through 2022.

Blazer management believes the move of the sports talk station from FM to the AM side is a step back and would like to either re-do its contract for a better market deal or have the opportunity to look elsewhere.

Station officials, who have offered to simulcast games on FM (101.1) and AM, contend they have a legitimate contract in place and are reluctant to renegotiate.

Portland radio is a joke right now. They killed off KUFO, they killed off Jammin, they killed off a great little station to move Jammin from 95.5 to I think it was 106.7. What's ridiculous is now 95.5 is just Z100 2.0. It's stupid. I have no idea what they're doing, but I'm less inclined to listen now.

What's funny is when The Game and the Blazers negotiated the contract PA owned The Game.

I agree that Portland radio stinks, but they do not make these decisions lightly or on a whim. Fact is this shitty radio sells ad time, and ad time is what keeps radio afloat. Who can you blame? The housewives that complained when Howard Stern said 'poop' too many times. Radio execs are now scared to play anything other than Z100 and country. Those formats sell without having controversy.

I think a simulcast on 101.1 is a nice compromise. A bigger issue is the Comcast fiasco.

Gettin' rid of Rome was kind of strange, taking on the Dodgers was an even weirder move, and moving to AM just killed it. The whole "we can reach 3.2 million people" on the AM is a joke.. I rarely listen to The Game anymore because the signal and sound quality is just terrible. Part of not listening anymore is the Blazers' season is done.. but the move to AM was a dumb move.

If the Blazers want out and get out.. then that's the end of that station.

What's more funny is the Blazers aren't in any hurry to get out of their Comcast deal, which leaves more than half of the state out of getting Blazer games on basic cable.

How so? I find it funny that PA is trying to pinch pennies on a radio deal while excluding 50% of his audience for $12m a year.

He's a terrible businessman. He's probably still bitter that Comcast never bought Charter while he still had a voice in that failure.

Well, I guess there's the dish, but in terms of cable it's the only game in town.

Yeah, totally agree. I only occasionally listened to The Game anyway, simply because Canzano is so obnoxious and Chad-in-the-morning is almost as obnoxious and knows a lot less. I basically only flipped over there when there was a story I wasn't interested in on OPB/NPR. But now that it's on AM? Forget about it. Sounds terrible on top of all the other problems.

CIP is even mailing it in at this point. Now they bring in Dan "at the end of the day" Dickau for a sidekick a few times a week.

    Ugh...

lol Blazers are run by dipwits... first they get rid of many of our ability to watch games... then they lessen who can listen. And now they want out of that?

Portland radio is awful! After spending a little time in Seattle, it blows this radio market out of the water and I've heard Seattle's isnt even good.

The funniest part is spending time in a place like LA and hearing songs two or even three months before they even hit Portland. I was in LA back in like 2009 when Pitbull and Kid Cuddi were first getting huge. They were all over the radio down there. I came back from my vacation and like two months later those songs finally hit Portland. It's sad really. A song is already played out in LA before it even reaches our city.

Pitbull and kid cuddi suck, i wish they never hit the airways in portland bleh.. I really dont care that jammin, 101, or any other station is off the air they all sucked. 95.5 the game on the other hand was nice, now that there on 750am i hardly listen or switch back and forth between them and 1080 thefan since they both sound terrible. I dont blame the blazers for wanting out of that horrible station with crapzano slinging bs all over the place and a shitty am signal. Start a new station on FM and let the game and crapzano sink.

PA has never made an agreement he didn't try to weasel out of.

The Bankrupt Billionaire gets no sympathy from me.

Pitbull is terrible and Kid Cuddi was a one-hit wonder. I didn't mind 101, but yeah..... Jammin sucked ass.

    "RELUCTANT TO RENEGOTIATE"

That is the understatement of the week. If The Blazers left, you would have nothing but dust bunnies left. Even before the move to AM, I had an ongoing debate with the program director about Chad being such a bad host. He defended him, and I quote "Chad is killing it in the time slot" well, I guess he was right, that show is dead.

The move to am sucked beyond the ability of a so so sports talk show to carry it. I think if The Blazers feel that they now are on an inferior product because of the move , they have every right to get a better shot at market penetration.
