Who would be our Steve Smith if we traded for another Scottie Pippen?

    Re: Unbalanced Trade?

And he played well too. That high basketball IQ is what helps these guys play effectively when they slow down. Same with Andre, Arvydas, and Pippen. I have high hopes Brandon will figure out how to change his game like that as well.

Anyway I just wish we could count on Oden for next year. I'd be a lot more on board with the trade if I thought we'd have Nash/Matthews/Wallace/Aldridge/Oden as our starters and they could stay healthy. But without Oden in the mix I think the price is too steep.

P.S. Am I the only one who started salivating when I read that possible starting line up. That just sounds so good!

My (perhaps wishful) thought for a few months, actually, has been that Roy can re-invent himself as a latter-career Smitty. A guy who couldn't beat people with athleticism, but was crafty in terms of getting to the hoop and could nail shots. And had some solid passing ability.

I wouldn't be opposed to getting Nash... Jason Kidd just won a championship at 38 years old, but he was also on a veteran team with Jason Terry, Dirk, Tyson Chandler, Shawn Marion, etc. I don't know if we have the team that would take Nash to the Finals. I think Wallace is a really good player, and Aldridge was finding his groove, but who else do we have? This team is pretty thin right now and I think it would take a lot more fleshing out before someone like Nash would be able to put us over the top.

Pippen was a great addition because the team was already a contender. We had just been to the WCF, and Pip was added to a roster with Steve Smith, to go with Sheed, Damon, Sabonis, and a myriad of other weapons. We aren't even close to that kind of depth. Putting Nash on this team would just be a waste I think.

It really all depends on Oden. If we get Oden back for most of the season + playoffs, the team is absolutely a contender with Nash. If we don't have Oden, we don't have anything more than a playoff team...with or without Nash. Essentially, you have to decide whether it's worth gambling Batum's future with Portland on the next few years...and the next few years definitely depend on Oden to go anywhere.

    Touche.

Although I did notice in your next serious post to Brian in Washington that you paraphrased me AGAIN. Aren't you supposed to pay me for that or something?

I haven't responded to BrianFromWA in this thread.

    Your argument is invalid.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but since Portland has already traded away their first-rounder for next year, wouldn't they be unable to trade away this year's first-rounder (without getting another one in return)?

Not true. We found it in the draft (1986?) when we drafted Sabonis.

Nope. This year's pick isn't a future pick, so it doesn't count:

Sure it is--this year's pick hasn't yet been picked, so it's a future pick. A week from now it won't be, but today it is.

Plus, we'd likely send the rights to the player, and not do the deal before the draft.
