Is it just me, or does it seem every team except the Blazers is rumored to be in a deal on a national level? Do you think it is a good, or bad thing that we are hearing nothing on a national scale about Blazers moves? I realize that once the media gets a hold of something it is usually dead, but wow.
Kinda reminds me of the rumors leading up to the last trade deadline. They've killed the leaks but were able to end up swinging a big deal in the end.
I think the probable lockout and new CBA uncertainty may be placing a bit of a damper on things. It also may be other teams have softened on their desire for Rudy or Batum since their rookie contracts are coming up.
Well, we don't have a GM. And I don't think it really matters if we're mentioned in the media or not.
Chad Buchanon is the GM right now. I personally dont think not having an official GM makes any difference. I'm sure Chad and Larry are on the phones just as much as other teams/GM's are.
For me, the 8hr-to-72hr mark before the draft/deadline hold almost zero significance. I like following the rumors, but it's SmokeScreen Village out there. And I like that, in the NBA draft, there's still hope. When I wanted Jake Locker to fall to the Seahawks and he got snapped up by Tennessee, that was it. But if, say, Biyambo gets taken by Indy, there can always be an announcement an hour later that we traded for him, only to move him to GSW for Curry or something. There's always hope.
Quick hasn't learned Chad's phone number yet, and doesn't care because Quick's retiring and Chad's a temp. In other words, for local media to hear rumors requires a verbose relationship between reporter and GM and that hasn't been developed. National media get a lot of their stuff from local media.
I think we are going to see something big happen with the Blazers. It is crazy hearing no rumors about the Blazers however.
There is a demotivational poster with the caption "Meetings: No one of us is as stupid as all of us." I think the same is true of an organization run via committee which is pretty much how the Blazers are rolling right now. I don't think we are hearing much because the team is undecided as to what it might do. The only guy who isn't being quiet is Nate. For I think the third year in a row Nate is requesting that the team bring in veteran guys in their prime. I wonder if he will be disappointed yet again.
I wonder if, privately, Nate is attaching specific names to his request. Y'know, like "Andre Iguodala"?
The Wallace trade was rumored for two days in the media prior to it being completed. The media got that one right, for once.
It's not like the Blazers are the Timberwolves or Cavs who seem to leak everything to improve the value of their assets. We've heard 2 or 3 rumors so far, which is about the same as most teams that aren't in the lottery.
This teams "insiders" have been absolute garbage the past few years. Meanwhile, Brian T. Smith has been dropping tidbits left and right on Twitter for the SLC tribune.
What that has to do with the Wallace trade being leaked puzzles me, but I agree with the above. Teams tend to leak things in order to get others involved; it's why I think Charlotte leaked the Wallace deal in order to try and drive up the price.
I agree... it doesn't seem accurate to say there have been no rumors about the Blazers or what they might do. Ed O.
This is really the best time to make moves. They keep saying "one or two moves away" from contending. Let's see if they walk the walk this Thursday.
