East Carolina has suspended receiver Michael Bowman and cornerback Emanuel Davis for its season opener against South Carolina on Sept. 3 following their weekend arrests.

Coach Ruffin McNeill announced the punishment Tuesday in a statement.

In addition to the suspension, Bowman and Davis will perform 25 hours of documented community service in addition to regularly scheduled time through the school's Student Development Office and any possible court sentence.

Bowman and Davis must also write formal letters of apology to all law enforcement personnel involved.

Bowman was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting a public officer while Davis was charged with being intoxicated and disruptive in public and resisting a public officer following their arrests early Saturday.

"Representing East Carolina University is a privilege and any behavior which contradicts that is simply unacceptable," McNeill said in a statement. "There's a level of expectation with conduct standards we have in place, especially with seniors who are in leadership roles.

"I'm both disappointed and embarrassed with the decisions Michael and Emanuel made and we will continue to hold one's accountability very seriously," McNeill said.
