That would be exactly the kind of deal that the Blazers should be looking for. Exchange old for young without having to take back a bad contract. I'm keeping my fingers crossed on this one.
Going from Tony Parker to this is kind of disheartening. Not a bad move, but I'm hoping for more of a splash.
This early in the day, this rumor could be nothing more than the Blazers putting the squeeze on the Spurs to let them know that there are other options that don't involve taking back Richard Jefferson's ugly contract.
That's funny I just had that thought too! And honestly, it's a good idea to have backup options anyway.
Nelson would be a fantastic pick up, and it would give Orlando another asset to deal to Atlanta for J Smoove
Andre's 2011 PER was 17.89....Nelson's was 15.47. He may be younger, but I don't see him helping us get out of the first round. At least he can hit the 3 though.
Jameer Nelson has never lit my fire. He's the poor man's Kemba Walker. He's Mr. Average, only a little shorter. Bleh. Would Orlando be planning to keep Dre? He's not the kind of PG that Stan Van Gundy likes because he doesn't shoot threes.
Nelson is solid, and about the kind of PG I'd expect to get for Andre and a first-rounder. He's 29, can shoot the 3 at a 40-percent clip, a one-time All-Star two years ago and is a legit NBA starter. I'd want Parker instead but Nelson would not be a bad get.
I've never been a Nelson fan, and while I wouldn't be outraged with the deal, I wouldn't be enthusiastic, either. Nelson is 29, so while he's about six years younger than Miller it's not like he's a spring chicken. He also has had troubles staying healthy (he's missed double-digit regular season games in four of his seven seasons). I dunno... a small step back, probably, in the short term... but if the team doesn't think they can get anyone who would help them (OR if they think they can buy their way back into the first round) I could see it working. Ed O.
I'm not super excited with this but i'd do it. Nelson can spread the floor better then Miller and can run a faster offense. If this goes down the front offense better be trying to do more moves because that doesn't make us really better its more of an even move with the future being a tad brighter.
Jameer Nelson? Seriously? The only advantage he has over Miller is that he's younger. I like Andre's post-up game and passing abilities much more than Nelson's 3-point shooting. Miller averaged 7 assists in the post-season, Nelson averaged only 6. Miller is a lot bigger, savvier, and battle-tested. I'd rather have him going into next season than Jameer Nelson.
And younger. Aldridge lacked someone to keep the double/triple team off him. Jameer can do this. He's passing the ball better than he ever has in his career IMO, and can knock down the jumper consistantly. He's had 7 years to perfect the ally-opp to Howard. I think he's exactly what Aldridge needs. But you're right, we do need something else in terms of scoring off the bench.
Not in the playoffs: he was 6-26. He wasn't going inside, either - he played 36 mpg and managed a TOTAL of 14 fts over six games. By comparison, Dre was 4-10 from 3 and shot 24 fts. In 32 mpg.
The guy on Hoopsworld thinks that the Magic would turn around and trade Dre and the pick for Josh Smith. Well, shit, we could do that and I'd be a lot happier! If that's out there, why are we even talking to Orlando? They don't have anybody we'd want apart from that one guy who stole Shaq's nickname.
