Here is my reaction to the NBA Draft as the picks came in: 1. With the first pick in the 2011 NBA Draft the Cleveland Cavaliers selected Kyrie Irving (Guard from Duke)- No surprise here. People can complain that he only played 11 games but if he remains healthy he is a great choice. He is a great point guard and player. He understands the game but is not a great athlete. While he may not replace LeBron fully him and the fourth pick will do a pretty darn good job doing it. His dad says that Kyrie brings alot to the table and this blogger agrees. 2. With the second pick in the 2011 NBA Draft the Minnesota Timberwolves selected Derrick Williams (Forward from Arizona)- Another non-surprise in the second pick but he is a great player and will be a great fit in Minnesota. He is a great driver and is a wonderful scorer but he needs to improve his defense to become an all around great NBA player. Jon Gruden said he can play in the NFL but he and Ricky Rubio will make a great duo in the NFL. 3. With the third pick in the 2011 NBA Draft the Utah Jazz selected Enes Kanter ( Center from Turkey)- He set the Nike Hoops Summit points record with 34. He wants to be a wrestler after basketball and that proves how big he has. Though the wether may be different from Turkey to Utah he will fit in perfectly basketball wise. He is a great shooter and a decent defense player and an all-around good player. His marks will be felt in the NBA for some time. 4. With the fourth pick in the 2011 NBA Draft the Cleveland Cavaliers selected Tristan Thompson (Forward from Texas)- This is a little surprise but not too much. He was an all-Big 12 second team player. He is undersized but has great footwork. He needs to work on free throws but the Cavs like Thompson and they see potential in him. He is working on his jumper but with more work he could be a solid NBA player. The rest of the league should watch out for the Irving-Thompson duo in Cleveland. 5. With the fifth pick in the 2011 NBA Draft the Toronto Raptors selected Jonas Valanciunas ( Center from Lithuania)- Jonas continues the trend of international players and is a good one. He has been compared to Pau Gasol and Chris Bosh. He is a fast player but needs to get stronger. He has contract issues and may have to wait a year to join the crew in Canada. But when he joins the Raptors he will be a force to be reckoned with. 6. With the sixth pick in the 2011 NBA Draft the Washington Wizards selected Jan Vesely ( Forward from the Czech Republic)- He is a great athlete who will fit right in with John Wall in Washington. He is called the European Blake Griffin and like Griffin will be a great rookie and might even win a Slam Dunk Contest. He is a big player and will make a great splash with the Wizards. 7. With the seventh pick in the 2011 NBA Draft the Sacramento Kings selected Bismack Biyembo (Forward from the Congo) - He has the coolest name ever and with a great wingspan he recorded the first triple-double in Nike Hoops Summit history. He is a great athlete who can block and rebound. He is a wonderful defense player but has problems on offense. Though age problems will haunt him he has put in a lot of hard work to get to the NBA. The Kings drafted for the Charlotte Bobcats and he will be good in Charlotte. 8. With the eighth pick in the 2011 NBA Draft the Detroit Piston selected Brandon Knight ( Guard from Kentucky)- Knight is a terrific player and will work hard in Motown. He is a good scorer but has potential on the defensive side. He has vision for the game but needs to get stronger. Knight is a strong student but will know focus all his attention on the subject of the NBA. He is a leader that is willing to work hard to get the Pistons where he got Kentucky to. He scored 657 points last year in college and will try to become a better point guard. 9. With the ninth pick in the 2011 NBA Draft the Charlotte Bobcats selected Kemba Walker (Guard from Connecticut) - Kemba Walker is a great player that led the Huskies to a National Championship. He has great speed and is a great driver. Walker is tough on both ends of the court and is great in the clutch, qualities who can bring to the NBA. He is small though but is a hard worker and has lots of heart. Kemba Walker is a proven leader and the man nicknamed "Easy Pass" is ready to bring his talents to Charlotte. 10. With the tenth pick in the 2011 NBA Draft the Milwaukee Bucks selected Jimmer Fredette (Guard from BYU)- Its Jimmer time in Sacramento. The Bucks are sleeting for the Kings and Jimmer is a good choice. He can shoot with his Jimmer Range. He is a passer that can also create his own shot. He is a great athlete but defensive questions linger around his name. He promised his brother to play in the NBA and like the team he is playing for Jimmer is a king. He will be able to play with Tyreke Evans and will defiantly up the fan base in Sacramento. He used to play against inmates in prison and will now play with even tougher guys in the NBA. JIMMER BLAST! 11. With the eleventh pick in the 2011 NBA Draft the Golden Sate Warriors selected Klay Thompson ( Guard from Washington Sate)- Klay is a perimeter shooter and is an excellent shooter with excellent court vision. He is also a great passer and will shine in the Golden State. He is a decent defender and is following in the footsteps of number 1 pick Mychal Thompson, his dad. He has unmatched knowledge of the NBA thanks to his dad. Klay is a student of the game and will play well in the NBA. 12. With the twelfth pick in the 2011 NBA Draft the Utah Jazz selected Alec Burks ( Guard from Colorado) - He was the Big-12 rookie of the year. He is not a hooter but has great finishing ability. He has great athleticism which will help him on the defensive side. He has to improve in multiple areas but him and Kanter will make a great pairing in Utah. Burks fells that he has a chip on his shoulder but here's hoping he will play like his mentor Chauncey Billups. 13. With the thirteenth pick in the 2011 NBA Draft the Phoenix Suns selected Markieff Morris (Forward from Kansas)- He wins the sibling rivalry by being drafted before his brother Marcus Morris. He shot 42% from the three-point line and is also a great rebounder. He has great size and will fit in with the big guys in the Suns program. He says he likes Phoenix and is not surprised being picked before his brother but I am. His issues will resolve though and for the first time he will play without his brother. 14. With the fourteenth pick in the 2011 NBA Draft the Houston Rockets selected Marcus Morris ( Forward from Kansas) - The younger brother of Markieff Morris goes five minutes later to the Rockets. He has a great turnaround jumper and is strong with good feet. He is very skilled but questions linger in the lane. But if he works on that he will become a great player and a complete player. Marcus feels he fits in Houston and he will go from playing with his brother to against him. The Morris twins become the third set of twins drafted in the first round.
