I always see Jason Kidd picked on PG top 5s, and to me its one of the most unintelliegent, unfounded picks, and unbacked picks there is. I'll agree Jason Kidd is a very good passer, and a very solid defender, despite loosing a step too often at least recently. And he usually puts up 15 ppg to add to it, but comparing him to gary payton? Jason Kidd has always been a good defender like i've said, but he has always played worse agaist bigger guards, unlike Payton who has shutdown Michael Jordan on several occasionals, and even backed down PFs. As far as their scoring game goes, it really isnt close at all despite kidds 15 ppg to paytons 20. A huge reason of this is, Kidd forces his 15 ppg, and it hurts his team a lot. not to mention he shoots very low % usually around .380, and takes very bad shots. Also as far as clutchness, what has Jason Kidd ever come through with? In his one finals appearance, his team was torn apart more then any other team i've seen in a finals matchup, which brings me to my next point. Leadership, Gary Payton took a team with little less then him and a dunker to game 6 of the nba finals agaist a dynasty. And to making the playoffs nearly every year since his draft in '92.

I agree, and I don't think Kidd is top five. But you can't say that Kidd forces his 15 ppg. J-Kidd is more of a pass first point guard anyway. I don't think they are "forced." Sure he has low shooting percentages, but it definately does not hurt the team. But Payton was a ton better at defense, and he has a title. (Miami '06)

It's too bad his title was late in career and he wasnt the captain or even a starter, so that doesnt mean much to me.And PRimeTime.. those points gotta make you agree. Godd evidence

Gary Payton's definatly a great point guard but at the point position you really can't make an arguement who's better comparing points per game. Gary's a great leader and was a great defender, but Jason Kidd's got a better all around game. Shooting better from the three point line, rebounding, shooting better from the free throw line, and averaging more assist every year. Even in his rookie year Jason averaged more assist than Payton along with rebounding. As far as title's go any point guard in the league could have played his role as a back up to Jason Williams. That's like if Charels Barkley were to come back at the end of the year play a few minutes with next years champs just to say he's got a ring. So when you say "Jason Kidd is not on the level of Payton" make sure you know more than ppg, though Payton might be a better scorer, Kidd's the better Point Guard.

I dont think you can use the "Payton has a ring argument" when comparing him to another player. He didn't even start, and wasn't even the best bench player.(Zo, Posey) This not only applies to Payton, but to all players who won a ring without starting.

He wasn't much of a scorer but his defense and passing ability shined. He hit 2 huge shots for Miami both were to give them the lead with less than 20 seconds left.
