A teenage granddaughter of Chicago Bulls and White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf was charged with marijuana possession after a traffic stop early Thursday in the northwest suburbs, police said.

Melissa Reinsdorf, 19, was charged after she was stopped at 1:30 a.m. near Milwaukee Avenue and Riverwalk Drive in Buffalo Grove, Buffalo Grove Police Cpl. Vince Positano said.

Traffic signals were out at the intersection due to a power outage and temporary stop signs were up, Positano said. Still, Reinsdorf allegedly blew a stop sign in her 2005 Chevy Cobalt, and was stopped by police shortly after.

The officer saw what he thought was “small pieces of cannabis on her lap,” Positano said. He pointed it out to Reinsdorf and asked her if she had any drugs in her car. That is when she handed over a plastic bag with a “green leafy substance” in it.
