WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (25-1, 23 KO’s) says he’s in the peak condition of his life for his bout against IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko on July 2nd. “Everything in the build up has felt so right,” Haye said in an article at the telegraph.co.uk. “Often there are bumps in the road on the way through a training camp but physically I’ve never been in better condition, and mentally I’m more prepared than ever before.” That’s a relief that Haye is talking about how good he feels, because at least we can exclude those areas as potential excuses for him if he ends up getting knocked out or dominated by Wladimir. What we don’t want is Haye to have excuses for a loss and not own up to the fact that he simply wasn’t good enough to beat Wladimir. Making excuses is pretty lame, and it’s hard to respect a fighter when they start letting them fly at the drop of a hat after they’ve been totally schooled.
