So used to playing close games, the San Francisco Giants almost didn't know what to do with big early lead. Leading by five runs after becoming the first team to rough up Arizona's Josh Collmenter, the Giants escaped some shaky moments by starter Matt Cain and closer Brian Wilson to hold off the Diamondbacks 6-5 on Tuesday night and maintain their slim grip on the NL West lead. this was a good game, with cardiac kid wilson walking 2 guys and throwing a wild pitch before striking out stephen drew to win it.
Lineup looked rejuvenated with Pablo back in. Love how this team never quits. They did it all last season and made their own luck when things didn't go their way. This season has been brutal but the team just doesn't go down without a fight and their grind-it-out style has allowed us to remain successful even with the loss of our best hitters. I know a lot of fans who wanted to give up after Posey went down but this team can still win the NL West if we remain relatively healthy and add a starting quality C who can have an impact on both sides of the plate. People say this team is like the 09 team but its actually much better IMO. That team didn't have Huff, Ross, Torres (as a starter), starting caliber version of Schierholtz, etc. Also didn't have the kind of bench we have now with Ford/Burriss giving speed, Fontenot/Burrell/Rowand pretty solid pinch hitters. And then consider that we now have Bumgarner and Vogelsong compared to Randy Johnson (injured toward the end though) and Brad Penny (half-season) and instead of Medders, Merkin Valdez, Bob Howry, Justin Miller, Waldis Joaqiun out of the pen we're rocking Lopez, Ramirez, Casilla, Mota.
i agree bmj, we are looking alot better than 2009, but man this offense has been brutal, not counting today losing posey and sanchez, as well as panda for 40 games, we should be under .500 right now, but our pitching is killing it
