Rep. Michele Bachmann got her Revolutionary War history a bit screwed up at an event in New Hampshire today, telling the crowd: "What I love about New Hampshire and what we have in common is our extreme love for liberty. You're the state where the shot was heard around the world in Lexington and Concord."

The Battles of Lexington and Concord and the shot heard round the world took place in Massachusetts.

"Carbon dioxide is portrayed as harmful. But there isn't even one study that can be produced that shows that carbon dioxide is a harmful gas." -Rep. Michelle Bachmann, April, 2009

"I find it interesting that it was back in the 1970s that the swine flu broke out under another, then under another Democrat president, Jimmy Carter. I'm not blaming this on President Obama, I just think it's an interesting coincidence." -Rep. Michele Bachmann, on the 1976 Swine Flu outbreak that happened when Gerald Ford, a Republican, was president, April 28, 2009

"If we took away the minimum wage -- if conceivably it was gone -- we could potentially virtually wipe out unemployment completely because we would be able to offer jobs at whatever level." Michele Bachmann, Jan. 2005

"That's why people need to continue to go to the town halls, continue to melt the phone lines of their liberal members of Congress, and let them know, under no certain circumstances will I give the government control over my body and my health care decisions." -Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), a pro-lifer who completely missed the irony of using the same slogan as the pro-choice movement in arguing against health care reform

Bachmann has a history of misquoting and completely getting things wrong. She is the funniest thing to happen to politics since Clinton got caught with his ugly secretary.

Her and Palin both strike me as being disingenuous. I suppose most politicians are being fed things to say but these two don't have the ability to filter information or the humility to admit a mistake. Then you have their batshit acolytes making excuses for them and changing Wikipedia pages to try and revise history based on their misinterpretations. I hope the GOP can do better.

Obama said stupid things, too. Like he visited all 57 states.

Similar to Obama as well, the big issue against her is lack of experience and using one elected office to go after a higher one. Without doing the job elected to do.

I thought Obama got suffciently hammered for that gaffe.

If Obama made some of those statements I read above, he would get extremely hammered . . . especially that last one.

Forget experience, if Obama or Bachmann will say stuff publiclly like the quotes I'm reading above, I do not want them as president of the US.

Was Obama asked a follow-up question to clarify his 57 states comment and did he insist that there are indeed 57 states? There's a difference between a slip of the tounge and insisting that you're right when you're not.

He insisted that if congress passed the "emergency" stimulus bill that unemployment would not go beyond 8%.

He insists there are millions of jobs created because of his policies, yet the net jobs created is a really bug negative number.

And you see those comments equally bad as Bachmann's comments quoted above?

I get that you're mad that Obama hasn't gotten us out of the hole as fast as any of us would like, but are you at least as angry at Bush who put us in the hole in the first place?

That said, the anger/fingerpointing stuff sure is old to me (and I'm not talking just about you, Denny). Rs and Ds need to be talking with each other and coming up with solutions that find middle ground. Instead of that, both sides seem more interested in pointing out how stupid the opposition is and that gets us exactly no where.

Michele Bachmann is smarter than most posters in here and smarter than the current occupant of the Oval Office.

I really want Obama to succeed, but I really think he's made things far worse than I expected. Bush and fellow republicans were plenty spendy in their own right, but the govt. "only" borrowed $.16 of every dollar it spent vs. $.42 now.

Bush isn't the president, nor does he have any power or authority to "fix" things. The blaming of him for the situation Obama inherited is fair enough, but Bush inherited a recession and tech bubble burst where many millions of people lost jobs and $5T in wealth. Clinton inherited a recession, too, and a real estate and S&L crisis. Reagan inherited an economy looking like 3rd world and the infamous "misery index."

Those guys worked with congresses of both parties and fixed things so people had jobs, paid taxes, and had money to spend.

I'm tired of the blame game and the utter failure relative to those other guys. Obama inherited a mess no worse than those others and it is not getting better under his policies, and with his own party given a supermajority in the senate, etc.

He's not the solution, he's the problem! And while some want to see him reelected no matter what, he jokes about there not being as many shovel ready jobs as he thought.

I'll repeat something I have posted a few times before. For the price of his stimulus package, $800B, we could have provided 40,000 brand new companies with $25M each in venture capital. $25M divided by $100,000 salaries would pay 50 employees at each of those companies for 5 years even if the companies generated $0 in revenues. That's 2M jobs and people paying taxes and making their mortgage payments instead of being foreclosed upon.

At this point, I don't see how Palin or Bachman or Bozo the clown would be any worse for the next 4 years, and at least there would be the slightest hope for things to turn around.

The sad thing is that you know someone is doing opposition research on not just her and her husband, but her five kids and 23 foster children.

He also had the benefit of the most prosperous bubble since the Great Depression. Yet he was still running huge deficits. Imagine if there was no housing bubble. My goodness. We'd probably be experiencing the decade we're having now...
