All of them have done some good things, but can someone name some bad things others have done so I can judge them better? After this year and some other things Stern has done and him getting lucky with the great players that came during his time, I'd put him at no higher than 3rd. Some of the earlier commissioners really did some great things to help out the league.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (SternSucksRooster @ Jul 3 2006, 09:41 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>A guy on FPM said about the new ball that it is the only time in sports history that people changed how a game was played to decrease scoring which I think is basically true. Higher scoring equals better ratings and more entertainment. Mr. Stern can't figure that out which is why he had to rig the finals this year after having an embarassment of a finals last year. That instantly makes him the worst commish in my mind.In the history of the NBA, there have been 4 actual commisioners including David Stern. Yay, he's top 4. What a f*cking amazing accomplishment. Lets see what each commish has done:-Maurice Podoloff1. Created the NBA in a way2. Draft3. Basically led the NBA to have some national interest-Walter Kennedy1. Expands NBA to 18 teams2. Gets first big TV contract3. Turns the NBA into a major and profitable corporation-Larry O'Brien1. Merged NBA and ABA2. Adds 5 teams3. Brings NBA to cable4. Salary Cap5. Not only saves the sport from decline, but once again revives all interest in it to a whole new level6. Organizes FA rules a bit better7. 3 pt field goal-David Stern1. Milked MJ's milk dry2. Got super freaking lucky that the first draft while he was commisioner turned out some of the league's largest superstars (also when that superstar treatment first really started, maybe its just a coincidence instead of a conspiracy)3. Has destroyed any physical contact in the game and turned it into 12 year old girls playing basketball4. He did get 7 more teams to the NBA and has taken the sport internationalI'm leaving out all the rule changes and things like that for just the big picture. Tell me, is David Stern better than the guy who created the NBA, the guy who the championship trophy is named after, or the guy that first made the sport popular on television and to the public?</div>that has to be the most biase list ever. there has to be more negetives for the other commishes than that.. all you put were bad stuff for stern. lol and good stuff for the rest. :no1:
It's true. He does make some points though.I'm still waiting for someone to find the negatives for all...

He is the worst thing to happen to the NBA. He used to be an average commish in my book and I supported his 19 year old age limit, but the dress code is BS and is what started my anti-Stern feelings. This isn't a regular business, lets get that straight. What kind of a regular business pays its employees millions and millions of dollars and treats them like baseball cards at times trading them away whenever. The whole lets make them dress up because its a business thing is just bogus because of that. You don't like all the "bling bling" bullsh**, then fine ban that. But suit and tie?!?! Come on now, is a simple T-Shirt and jeans not good enough after these guys that just went all out on the court for the entertainment of the fans. Also, El Presidente Stern wants to get rid of the tights guys like Jerry Stackhouse wears. There are plenty of guys like Stackhouse who wear it for bad knees and legs and might wear it because it helps prevent injuries, Stern feels its unfashionable (does his constant concern about big black guys looking good worry anyone?) and wants to ban it He also doesn't like the shorts to be too long, he's more of a fan of the old school, let-me-see-your-package-hang-out type of shorts. EWWWWW!!! I want as much freaking pants as possible for them to cover that up. And the music!!! Come on, it brings energy to the game and since there aren't many clock stops like in hockey and football and baseball (no clocks even) the fans need that extra something and it does help. Why does he want to get rid of some of the loud rap music? Because a 90 year old friend of his said the music was too loud. That old son of a bi*ch has no rightful place in their unless he is in the owner's box signing paychecks. Now to some of the worst things he's done since then. The hypocrite doesn't allow any complaining about the officiating, yet has no problem with looking back at plays and giving out suspensions. His whole league is rigged too. Can you explain to me who DJ Mbenga who was inactive for that game against the Suns was able to get suspended a game longer than Davis when no altercation occured and the only similarity between the 2 conflicts was that nothing happened with DJ's while Davis nearly got into a huge fight with a guy. Or how about Stackhouse getting suspended a game for fouling Shaq (he walked it off in a few seconds) while Shaq doesn't get suspended for splitting his nose open. He also decides to have the worst refs in the league decide the most important games in the season. If he wants to improve the game itself instead of trying to improve how his athletes look *cough*fairy*cough*, how about adding another ref in the playoffs or at least the final 2 rounds where there is plenty of guys available. AND DON'T HAVE THE SAME sh*tty ONES LIKE JOE DEROSA!!! While this officiating F*ck-up was best seen in the finals since it was so one-sided towards the more Jordan like player and team that had the more Jordan like player, but inconsistencies were seen throughout the playoffs. You could choose any game you want and see huge differences between quarters on how the refs called fouls. In baseball, you know after the first few pitches how the ump is going to be judging the strike zone. In basketball, you'll have a bump be shrugged off by the refs on one guy, but that same bump will be a blocking foul if its on King James. But hey, at least we know that all the matchups were fair. I mean, seeing San Antonio and Dallas in the second round of the playoffs was great, right?</div>I dont disagree with everything that you said but i am going to prove you wrong on some stuffFirst of all, with the dress code, you say that it is ridiculous that they should have to wear suits and ties to games. How difficult is it for a proffessional basketball player who makes a great deal of money to wear a suit and tie. It takes them 5 minutes to put it on and it ultimatley gives a better image to the game. And lets see here, they went all out for the fans and in the mean time they are making millions of dollars. They are making a sh*t load of money for playing a game that benefits themselves. If they make so much money, how hard is it to wear a tie to a game to make it look more respectable. Also, i have never heard him say anything about shorts being too long. He cant control that. Look at Allen Iverson's shorts. They are very long and you dont see him saying anything about it. He might prefer players to wear not as long shorts but he is not preventing them from doing so. As for the leg socks, that might be a little over the edge. Players should be able to make the case that they have a phsical dissability to where if they wear the peice of attire, it will help them perform better. And that should be enough for David Stern to allow them to wear it. I agree with you about the music. Music brings excitement to the arena and also IMO makes people play better. I know that when i am playing with music, it puts me in more of a grove.About the officiating, he does allow complaining about the officiating but only to a certain extent. If you say that the refs are rigging the game, that will hurt the face of the NBA. David Stern cant take risks of these rumors going around the NBA. With the suspensions, I agree that you should not give a player a suspension in the playoffs because it is too crucial. But what Jerry Stackhouse did would get him suspended in a regular season game and i wouldnt disagree with it. Referees aren't perfect. They arent going to please everybody because there are fans for each team that is in the playoffs. I would like to see most people in America try and referee a game of that magnitude. People would not know what to do. I would not like refeering a game where i know going in to that i am going to be complained about. Joe Derosa is not a bad official. You are probably just a mavericks fan that is bitter about his team losing in the finals. When are people just going to accept defeat and give praises to teams/players that deserve it.And, as for the matchup of the Spurs and Mavericks in the 2nd round. They are going to have to play each other eventually so i dont see what the big deal is. Also, a team knows that they have to win their division to get a definate #3 spot or higher. If it wasnt like that, you never know if thier record would be hindered or not considering the circumstances.Im done
I just want to say I disagree with your comment about the Stackhouse suspension. Shaq is a big man and that is the only way you can stop a 3 point play by him right there. He didn't even fall down that hard. It just seemed like a bigger thing when Wade was trying to hold him down and Shaq fell that 2nd time. And Stackhouse was a big loss to the team for a must-win game. His foul was no worse than the nut grab or Luke Walton throwing down TT, both didn't get a suspension.
Did you not hear me say that he shouldnt have been suspended for the playoff game? I said that he should have gotten suspended if that was a regular season game. And no, you hold down his arms, not smack him with all you force...

No but long posts should always be read. I just don't think Stack's foul was that bad at all. I just can't imagine someone of his size stopping Shaq on the run in any other way.

Dont you agree??? I dont know if you understand what i mean.
I have no idea what you mean. It just didn't seem like that bad of a foul in my opinion. The refs didn't even give it a flagrant 2. It was nothing more than just a flagrant foul.

If that is the case, Shaq was stopped from scoring on that play, so that means that what Stackhouse did was obviously intentional. And when you give an intentional foul and make Shaq fall down, there had to be something very wrong with the situation. Like I said earlier, he should not have been suspended only because it was a crucial playoff game. If it was a regular season game, i would have no problem with him being suspended for a VERY unneccessary foul.
Players are sent to the floor all the time. You need to foul hard to stop someone from scoring. If he did it and softer it would've been a 3-point play or Shaq would've fallen on top of him. :-D Shaq didn't even go down THAT hard. It was nothing more than a flagrant in any situation. It doesen't matter anyway since it WAS in the playoffs so there shouldn't have been a suspension like you said.
Shaq isnt a regular player. He ways over 340 pounds. He doesnt fall to the ground that often. Then dont you think if Stackhouse knew he had to foul Shaq extremely hard and he would have to live with the consequences, that he should have just let him have the two points?
Shaq said after the game that it was nothing more than a hard foul.Dirk got elbowed in the chest when Dwayne Wade was running to the hoop. A foul was called on Dirk. Marquis Daniels was standing with arms out a foot away from Wade (no f-in joke) a foul was called on Daniels. Terry drove the ball for a layup and got body slammed by Alonzo Mourning, the commentators praised Mourning for a good clean block. I'm not making this up and I have taken defeat gracefully before, I was pissed as hell when they lost to the Suns last year, but I sucked it up and admitted that they were the better team (I don't believe I did the Matt Leinart congratulations but a real congrats, ask AZFan). The Heat were not the better team, they were the team with the more Jordan-esque player and without Cuban for an owner. The NBA does not let you say anything about the officiating or the way the league is run. Nothing. They had an easier time of criticizing the head guys in Soviet Russia. There are no appeals to suspensions, no pleading your case, its all what Stu and Stern think, and since they are infallible they must be right. Its not leg socks, its tights. Stackhouse has said he uses it for his knees many times, Stern still wants him to get rid of them next season.Stern has also fined players like AI for having their pants too saggy.
No, 2 points can be very important in a playoff game and a big Shaq dunk gets the crowd into it more, but Shaq can't shoot free throws so fouling is smarter. I know Shaq is huge and that's why he needs to be fouled hard. I've seen so many times people try and foul him but it ended up being a 3 point play with the person commiting the foul getting the punishment.

He has done a lot for the NBA. I still don't agree with some stuff also though. Like making players dress all good. Damn don't try to change how they are, and make them fake. Let them dress how ever they want to. If you put a murderer in a suite they are still a murderer. Just like if you have guys wearing big *ss jeans, big jerseys, and hats side ways don't mean there are a bad person.Other then that I don't really have a problem with David Stern.
David Stern, congratulations on being a good thing for the league, but you can be an even better commisioner by learning when to step aside. It's time for a change.
