This Saturday night former WBO welterweight champion Paul Williams (39-2, 27 KOs) faces Cuban Erislandy Lara (15-0, 10 KO’s) in a 12 round bout at the Boardwalk Hall, in Atlantic City, New Jersey. It’s incredibly difficult to get excited about this fight because Williams was knocked cold in his last bout in a second round knockout loss to Sergio Martinez last year in November, while his opponent Lara fought to a controversial 10 round majority draw with fringe contender Carlos Molina in March of this year.

We’re talking two flawed guys here. On top of that, Williams is talking about wanting to fight only two more times against Sergio Martinez and Kermit Cintron and then retiring from boxing. That’s not exactly the best thing to say if want boxing fans to see you fight. Why bother if the guy is going to retire soon? I can’t see Williams getting a third fight with Martinez, so that ones probably out. And if he fights Cintron, who cares

I think the article is a little hard on both fighters, but especially Paul Williams. I have always liked him and think he is a talent.
