Rico Ramos scored a spectacular seventh- round knockout to take the WBA super bantamweight title away from Akifumi Shimoda Saturday night. Ramos (20-0, 11 KOs), who suffered a cut over his right eye during the bout and was seemingly behind on the scorecards, used a soft right to send his opponent back and then came through with a thunderous left hook to the face. That floored Shimoda (23-3-1, 10 KOs), who couldn't get up in time and was counted out with 14 seconds left in the round.
