Saw one of the NBA commentators on TV the other night saying that he didn't think there would be a season this year. If that is the case, what will you do this season instead of watching Blazer basketball?

Personally, I think I'll read more books and get more sleep. The West Coast games often keep me up until 1 in the morning, so I'll be getting to bed earlier.

    What will you do differently?

If you had a network, career, or any vested interest in the NBA wouldn't you be telling tales of doom and gloom right now? That is basically the ONLY story they can talk about right now. There is no real information available on player movement, progress of rookies, or even summer basketball. When you have a 24 hour media product that simply disappears it makes sense to make "news" out of the labor issues. Personally I think there will be a CBA agreement by September, and I choose to avoid the chicken little reporters that are quite frankly fighting for their own existence during the down time.

Probably watch some more college football and basketball. I like them both, but usually skip it because I only have so much time to watch and Blazers come first.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
Focus on the NFL til the Super Bowl's over (it seems like the NFL is close to resolving their lockout). Maybe watch some college hoops. I'll probably just cut my sports consumption, though, after the NFL season is over.

    A year without the NBA:

-will make the Miller trade look genius

-will increase the odds of Oden leaving

-will take one year off of Roy's contract

-will leave the Blazers with few guarenteed contracts . . . and few quality players

-will allow me to travel more from the money I get back from the Blazer organization

    -will kill this board?

I didn't think of that. How long can a family "camp" in a city park?

    1. We hold Felton's Bird rights (assuming they are still around) . . . I would much rather have Felton's Bird rights v. Miller. I doubt Miller will be worth a lot to teams out there . . . maybe as a back up PG or a team that thinks they have one more year run in them.

    2. If no NBA this year, isn't GO an UFA next year . . . bad news if true.

    4. Batum, Wallace, Oden, Johnson expire as well. Will they pick up Babbit and Elliott for another year? I believe they will just have Matthew and Aldrdige on the books (probably missing someone)

    5. Thank you

    6. Board will live as long as you, PapaG and jlprk keep posting. :D

Felton only signed a 2-year contract with NY, so no Bird rights.

this is all conjecture, but batum will be an rfa next year and wallace has a player option...i doubt that they will let all the contracts and control expire before teams have a chance to do something about it...remember, the year isnt done until next july 1st

and we will not hold feltons bird rights, but like i said conjecture, bird rights might not even be around anymore...there are also the early bird rights after 2 years where a player can be signed for 175% of his previous years salary for no less than 2 years and no more than 5, and the non bird exception, where a player can be signed while over the cap to an amount not greater than 120% of their previous salary (or 120% of the average nba salary, whichever is greater)

    everybody bookmark this!
