I didn't catch this interview in particular, but fwiw: http://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=1125684
I assume this was from pre-stoppage? If I was the 76ers, I'd nix the Blazer trade too. Not that I think Iguodala is the cats meow (actually, I don't like him much), but if I could maybe get Monta Ellis, I would hope I could get better then Matthews and Camby. Unless they're wanting ending contracts (Camby) and a relatively small contract (Matthews).
I have a lot of mixed emotions about Iguodala. On D he is a SG. On O he is an undersized SF. But unless you actually trade him for Roy there is no sense in getting him. Neither one will be worth 16 million in 3 years. Having both will be impossible under a new CBA. I love his athletic game. But I don't like his lack of a jump shot. Not for that kind of money. That's why Philly wants to get rid of him. Regardless I would still trade Wes and Camby for him . Nothing to lose.
In what way is he an "undersized SF" on offense? He's an excellent ball-handler and passer, which means he's a fine fit as a guard. And defensively, he's not at all limited to shooting guard. The names on this list are hardly all shooting guards. He's perhaps the premier wing defender in the NBA right now.
on D he is a wing defender, he can guard either the 2 or the 3 and is one of if not the best wing defender in the league. If we had gotten him having him and Wallace as the 2 and 3 would mean we would have to change our style of play. This shoot 3's and pray we hit at a 35% BS wouldn't come close to being efficient. Actually it seems it was rather inefficient last season too.
OK he is not an undersized SF. He is simply a SF. I agree, he can guard a lot of different types of players. I love his D. But becasue he lacks a consistent jump shot and he can't post up bigger SF's I still would classify him at 6'6' as a undersized SF on the offensive end. But again i would still take him. But I don't think he fits in with every team. For example if he played SF along side of Wallace, LMA and Oden they would see a lot of zone in the playoffs. With Batum he would fit in better. You either surround him with a PG and a SF who could sroke it from the outside, or you play him at SF IMO And of course you would have to run.
He would take Rudy's minutes. Last season, Rudy averaged 23.3 mpg. Iguodala averaged 36.9 mpg (because he was injured; in the 4 seasons before he got 39.7 mpg). With Roy returning, who will give up the difference (14 mpg plus the increase in Roy's minutes)? Our only player to get 36 mpg was Aldridge at 39.6 mpg, and that was only because Camby and Pendergraph were out (and because we stupidly got rid of Juwan Howard).
Except he has the handle and passing skills of a guard, so I still don't see why you believe he can't play shooting guard. It's true that he's not a great three-point shooter (though he's not terrible either, he's simply a bit below average), but that's less than ideal from any perimeter spot...it doesn't disqualify him from either position. And he's good to great at virtually every other aspect of the game.
He spends most of his time at SG. Last season they wanted to groom Turner so he played more time at SF then he regularly would. He is a SG who can play SF not a SF who can play SG.
As I showed above, as a Blazer, Iggy would lose a third of the minutes to which he's accustomed. Almost all players lose more than a third of their effectiveness when they lose a third of their minutes. That makes him no better than the man he replaces, Rudy. Increase Rudy's minutes 50% to Iggy's minutes and Rudy would feel the confidence and start making his shots.
If the trade goes down like it was rumored Iggy would be our starting SG. He would still average 30+. Onto the Rudy point they are completely different players. Iggy has better D is a better playmaker/rebounder and is much more athletic but his outside shot, well to put it bluntly is about as consistent as Roy was in the playoffs. The only thing Rudy has on Iggy is his shooting ability which last season wasn't there.
If money and cap situation were no object, this deal would be a huge win for the Blazers. The money and cap situation are up in the air at this point.
Damn, I'm tired of having to log in twice whenever I take more than about 30 seconds to compose my post after logging in. How do people stay logged in for hours when it won't let me stay logged in for half a minute? How can I not be logged in if I'm typing into the Quick Reply window, which appears only after you log in?
You click the "remember me" checkbox at the top of the page where the login/password boxes are? If you're having trouble staying logged in, then it's likely some firewall software you have installed on your machine that's affecting the cookies.
So Iggy loses almost a fourth of the minutes he's used to (40), and Matthews loses a third of last year's minutes (33.6). To balance that (10 + 11), we gain Rudy's minutes (23.3). That leaves 2 more minutes for Roy, since he was shorted last year due to the transition in his skills. So Iggy and Matthews each lose a third or a fourth of their minutes as they share the position. Will this make them less effective per minute? I'm just saying that Iggy has always gotten a lot of minutes and is not used to being put in and out of games. Not being a high volume player might lose him his league stardom and move him closer to Rudy and Matthews. I got it pasted in! Yaay! Better click fast or it'll say I'm not logged in.
It's there now. You must have done something. Are you saying I'm supposed to click that everytime I log on to stay logged on? As long as I'm complaining, I mean suggesting improvements, the Search function sucks. A half hour ago I go into Advanced Search and ask for all my own posts in the last month with the word "year" in them. It says there are none. Right. It does this all the time for my own posts, but I get better results if I don't specify any screen name. It doesn't like 3 letters or fewer, but 4 letters is enough.
