I guess I'll have to listen to ESPN Radio from noon-3 at work. http://espn.go.com/espnradio/play?s=espn
Mychal doesn't work for the Lakers anymore. Rumor has it the he was too critical of the Lakers. When he was with Kermit in Portland years back that was the best sports radio show I've ever heard. I was surprised he didn't make the jump to TV. He is much smarter, funnier and quicker on his feet than Sir Charles or Shaq could ever dream of being.
That's interesting, he said in May or June when he was auditioning for the 9-noon time slot on The Game that he wasn't doing the Lakers anymore and was looking to move back to Portland if he got the gig.
Thompson was Kevin Calabro's colorman for a couple of seasons, doing all Sonic games, radio and TV. He was the best colorman Calabro had in all his years with the Sonics. Their chemistry was stupendous and each made the other funnier. Thompson is the opposite of Barkley or Shaq. He doesn't project macho power and act like he's ready to fight. He talks quickly and makes funny little snide comments. He amused listeners with a lot of non-basketball garbage. He's smart and glib compared to other former 1st picks in the whole draft. He refers to popular culture. Nowadays he'd probably say a player must have been listening to his I-pad when he screwed up that last play, something like that. He'd say the player was distracted by some particular song Thompson doesn't like. Then he and Calabro would have gone on a tangent about their favorite and least favorite musical groups, delighted to be in each other's company. It was sure better than describing how the Sonics were losing.
