Sabonis is going to get a lot of press the next couple of weeks. Here is a really good article on him and what it took to get him here from the Portland Tribune. http://www.portlandtribune.com/sports/story.php?story_id=131301031819329900
Re: The Sabonis threrad! Eggers must dislike Bob Whitsitt. He lists every possible name connected to Sabonis coming to Portland, but no Whitsitt.
Re: The Sabonis threrad! I wish Sabonis was over here when we reached the finals in the early 90's. No doubt in my mind the series would have been completely different with Sabas as our center instead of Duckworth.
Re: The Sabonis threrad! Sports Illustrated also does a great writeup on Sabonis. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writers/jack_mccallum/08/11/arvydas.sabonis.hof/
Re: The Sabonis threrad! Quick's article on Sabonis - http://www.oregonlive.com/blazers/index.ssf/2011/08/arvydas_sabonis_trail_blazers.html Fun fact: The largest ship in the Lithuanian naval fleet is named the SABAS.
Re: The Sabonis threrad! Here's a good comprehensive list of all things Sabonis the Blazers just tweeted out
Re: The Sabonis threrad! Is it bigger than his bathtub? Actually the same could be asked about the whole country.
Re: The Sabonis threrad! Does anyone remember his nickname from opposing fanbases? Arthritic Slowbonis.
How funny is it that Sabas gave a special thanks to the Blazer medical staff with Walton standing behind him?
Goosebumps. I was lucky enough to live in Spain when he was in the ACB. I saw him play with both Forum Valladolid and Real Madrid. I would rave about him to my friends back home and wish he would have come to Portland earlier.
