News from UFC on FOX press conference, television deal announced

    Fox does a better job with football and NASCAR than the grandfather networks and they'll probably do a better job with MMA as well.

    According to this report, the UFC has signed a $80-90M/year deal with Fox for up to eight years. Spike and Versus programming will shift over to FX. The cable network Fuel could get some UFC programming as well. Up to four events/year could be shown on Fox. Little unclear whether events airing on FX count or if the four events are primetime shows like CBS did with EliteXC/Strikeforce.

    Sounds like Spike will pick up/pump up Bellator to replace the UFC.

    Don't know whether the next season of The Ultimate Fighter will air on Spike or Fox/FX/Fuel.

    Cool. Good call about Fox being decent with their sports broadcasts too, for some reason I have more faith in them than NBC/ABC/CBS.

    Yes, and there is a rumour that Showtime is going to cancel it's contract with Strikeforce (expires in September if not option-extended), opening up Spike to pick up Strikeforce, but who knows what is true and what isn't. DFW is denying that the UFC will be on Fox, too.

    FOX and the UFC are expected to formally announce their new partnership tomorrow, with FOX calling the deal "one of the biggest announcements in FOX Sports history".

    Bit of news already: TUF 14 (Bisping vs. Mayhem) will air on Spike but it will be the last iteration of the series on that channel. It will likely move to FX or Fuel. Dunno if the format of the show will change--seems unlikely.

    The UFC reportedly wanted well over $100m/year to stay on Spike, which probably helped kill negotiations.

    Fox & UFC made contact over ten years ago. Fox wasn't interested at the time but they've watched the sport grow and now want in.

    Confirmed: 4 fights/year FOX, 32 on FX (32??) on Friday Nights, stuff on Fuel and Fox Deportes
