A friend and I were talking about the likelihood of an upcoming season. He is will willing to lay me 2 to 1 odds that there will not be an 82 game season. So, if I bet, I put up $100 and he puts up $200. If there is a full season, I win, anything short, and I lose. I don't often make three digit bets, but I need to make up my mind before Friday night. What do you think.
yeah, any bet that involves Billy Hunter trying to outmaneuver David Stern isn't worth the risk. I don't know that I'd take 10-to-1 for that.
Well, I guess tonight I will turn down the bet. Odds wise, where do you think it makes sense to make the bet if my friend is willing to take a different bet. 3;1, 4:1, 10:1, what do you think makes sense?
If he'll give you 2 to 1, bet on 50 games like the last lockout. I think you'll lose, but it's a respectable bet.
I may be able to get the odds to go up, but if we do agree to a bet, it will be centered around an 82 game season.
I would put the odds on a full 82 game schedule conservatively at 100:1. I think the earliest we see anything will be January.
Don't change the odds. Haggle over whether it'll be a 40, 50 or 60 game season. If you take a bet on an 82 game season now, you are basically handing him $100. It's only just over 2 months until the season normally starts, and there's been no chatter at all about it making any progress. It just ain't going to happen. It's going to take a month of no hoops in November for both players and teams to really feel viscerally what no CBA means. That will tenderize everybody toward negotiating.
especially with recent economic news/the stock market flailing, I would expect that both sides would want to wait and see whats what with the landscape that they're going to be doing business in. STOMP
20:1 seems about right to me. I don't find it at ALL likely that the full 82 games will be played, and even if an agreement is reached, there won't be much incentive to make it an 82 game season rather than, say, 65. Ed O.
Are you joking, or is this yet another case of you not reading through the entirely of what has been posted?
I say go for it. It is a terrible bet, but I want to hear you complaining about all the money you lost in 2 or 3 months; at least it will give us something to talk about.
so no bet was made. He came up to 3.5:1 and I wanted 8:1. Too far away. I'm glad no bet was made, even at 8:1 I think I may have gotten the worst of it.
I'll give you 18:1 odds on $100. I bet that the sun rises tomorrow. Just think about how much money you could make if it doesn't.
