UPDATE 9/14/2013 Joe Son is being brought up on a murder charge. In 2011 he killed his 50-year old pedo cellmate. He could face the death penalty. http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504083_162-20093670-504083.html Former UFC fighter Joe Son, who was Random Task in the film Austin Powers, will likely stand trail next week for a crime committed in 1990. Son's DNA was taken after a felony vandalism and parole violation in 2008, and it was matched to the unsolved 18-year old crime. His co-defendant (Santiago Gaitan) was arrested in 2009 and pleaded guilty this year, and has begun serving a 17.5-year sentence. Son's initial Orange County charges included five counts of rape, two counts of forced sodomy, two counts of gang sodomy, seven counts of forced oral, and one count of forced penetration with an object (a gun). Due to the statute of limitations the original charges have expired and he is now facing a conspiracy to commit murder and torture rap. Son and his co-defendant forced a 20-year old Los Angeles woman into the backseat of their car at gunpoint where they raped and threatened her for an extended period of time, at one point counting the bullets they claimed they would shoot her with. Aside from his career as a fighter (0-5) and actor, Korean-born Joe Son dabbled as a martial arts instructor, teaching his own combat art (Joe Son Do) and managing fighters including Kimo Leopoldo. He's also famous for hauling a massive wooden cross from backstage to cage side before his fights, a tribute to Jesus that left him gassed-out before the fights even began. I've heard some stories about people running into Joe Son in the LA area and finding him to be at least bizarre and at worst seriously mentally ill. Based on that it seems likely he won't be fit to stand trial despite the seriousness of his charges.
Re: Update: Joe Son convicted, faces 15-to-life As expected, Joe Son has been convicted for one count of felony torture and faces 15-to-life on that charge. No word on when sentencing is scheduled but suffice to say he won't be in the next Austin Powers sequel.
Re: Update: Joe Son convicted, faces 15-to-life Joe Son was given a life sentence today with a possibility for parole after sixteen years.
Re: Update: Joe Son sentenced to life in prison for torture what he did was insane side note if they cant get you on rape/kidnapping/etc, they can just change the charge to torture?
Re: Update: Joe Son sentenced to life in prison for torture I think they were new charges. They couldn't charge him with the same thing again so they went at it from another angle, no pun intended.
Re: Update: Joe Son sentenced to life in prison for torture Joe Son likely murdered his cellmate, pedophile Michael Thomas Graham, 50, in 2011. He's being brought up on that now. Son might face the death penalty given that he's already been sentenced to life in prison for the above mentioned crimes.
Re: Update: Joe Son, already in prison for life, faces death penalty for cellmate mur Murdering a pedophile is okay in my book.
