I guess I don't understand why she walked off. If the topic was, as Piers said, in her book... I guess what I don't like about the tea party is that a lot of the women have this "stepford wife" feel about them. I guess that's why I haven't associated with a party in years... I don't feel like any of them actually represent my beliefs.

I think the fact she's a bit of a whack job is a bigger reason why she won't win many hearts and minds. this is just a symptom of it.

It's not just the Tea partiers though... I'm sick and tired of the polished politician look. Just for once I'd love for one of these guys to be like... "yeah, I said that. That's how I feel. No apologies."

Or at least say it and not cow-tow to the pressure from the "leaders" in their party/movement.

I guess what annoys me is how these people claim to be constitutionalists, yet they try to push an agenda on issues like gay marriage or abortion. A true anti-federalist, small government, democratic republican would never support the government getting involved in who can or can't marry.

They don't expect people to know what constitutionalists means, and will just see the word and think "oooh, smart person!"

I think its like they are handed a big book of political backgrounds, and pick the one they think sounds the most important. Then they can just spew whatever the hell they want, even if it is contrary to what they claim they are, because they know people want to belong to something and the more important it sounds the better they feel.

Such as, would you rather belong a group that says "constitutionalists" group, or a "we like dictating what you think, do and believe" group?

Even if you don't know what the first one means, it sounds more legit then the second. Politicians use labels all the time to build a reputation/name, even if it doesn't fit what they believe OR what they say doesn't jibe with what they claim they are.

PLUS, the media never questions what someone says, so if you claim you're in the constitutionalists party, it's not like they'd as "so, what does that mean?" or "what are some of your favorite constitutional issues". And the few times they do, they're branded as a "gotcha media" or "lame stream media" out to make Sarah Palin look bad.

Because unfortunately Maxie, she is out there representing your party, whether you like it or not.

Which party would that be? I'm not a Republican. And if she claims to be a Tea Party leader, I can assure you that no one who claims to be a leader actually is.

Those who like to mock advocates of limited government love people like Christine O'Donnell, because she confirms their bias that you have to be stupid if you disagree with them. Let them talk to Victor Davis Hanson, Tyler Cowen or Glenn Reynolds instead. If they wish to pick a politician, then they can talk to Thad McCotter or Paul Ryan, but that doesn't fit their narrative.

But who cares if it's true or not? If she's out there saying she's part of the Tea Party, guess what, she's representing you. Maybe it would be a good idea to organize so you don't have so many nutjobs representing you in the future? Right now anyone can say they're from the Tea Party, spout some religious right bullshit and damage your image further.

That's a silly argument for the weak minded, along the lines "if you repeat a big lie enough, it becomes true". I'm sorry you take such a dim view of the intellectual capacity of the citizenry.

As for organizing, it's not what we're about. True grassroots enterprises are messy, with all kinds of clingers. Why don't you blame the media for promoting all sorts of false idols?

I have an extremely low opinion of the intellectual capacity of the citizenry. They believe whatever the media tells them. Need proof? I'd bet you that 8 out of 10 liberals think it was Sarah Palin who said she could see Russia from her porch when in fact it was Tina Fey in an SNL skit playing Palin. People believe whatever they're told and they don't question anything. I can point to this again and again with pretty much anything.

LOL! I love it! They're only part of the Tea Party win they win elections. If they lose they were just some "clinger" who claimed to be part of the tea party.

Tea Party Backs O’Donnell in Delaware

Delaware tea party candidate Christine O’Donnell got a major boost today in her long-shot campaign to take the Republican Senate nomination from under the nose of Rep. Mike Castle, who is considered the overwhelming favorite. The Tea Party Express announced it would spend as much as $600,000 ahead of Delaware’s Sept. 14 primary on her behalf.

Oh, SPD, bless your heart. Christine O'Donnell may hold Tea Party positions, but not everything she says has to do with the Tea Party. As for your link saying "so-and-so" endorsed her, when are you going to realize we're not a formal organization? We're a loose confederation. The most someone who courts the Tea Party vote can expect is turnout for people who share their views.

Golly, you're so smart and superior to the stupid, knuckledragging citizenry. I bow to your towering intellect and only ask that you tell me what I should think next.

The link I posted was from the WSJ. I would trust the WSJ more than most news organizations when it comes to reporting on the Tea Party.

Also they didn't just endorse her they gave her campaign money which would require a formal level of organization and operation.

Does the Tea Party Express represent all people with Tea Party beliefs? No but they are an organization representing people with Tea Party beliefs that collects money and gives to candidates that represents Tea Party beliefs. That seems more than just a loose confederation.
