I think they'd mostly be thrilled to see how many generations have reaped the benefits of their foresight.

However, I think they'd mostly be depressed about the Civil War. They kicked the can down the road on the issue of slavery, and the divide this issue fostered wound up resulting in America's costliest all-time war. Costliest in both terms of both human life and economy. It was America's original sin, declaring that all men are created equal except the blacks, and we certainly paid a price for that sin. Right up until (at least) the civil rights movement.

I think they'd probably fall into various camps about abortion or the social safety net, because they were humans with diverging opinions just like we are. But they'd probably feel a deep sense of shame over the slaughter and waste that the issue of slavery cost our country. Imagine where our country, and Western Civilization, would be if we hadn't spent the 1860's destroying each other, and if we hadn't so badly fucked up reconstruction.

Might as well. I mean, outside of a few posts, no sign of intelligent life around here.
