As Hurricane Irene ravaged the East Coast this weekend, Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann said the storm and last week's earthquake were God's way of trying to get politicians in Washington to deal with soaring federal deficits. "I don't know how much God has to do to get the attention of the politicians. We've had an earthquake; we've had a hurricane. He said, 'Are you going to start listening to me here?' Listen to the American people because the American people are roaring right now. They know government is on a morbid obesity diet and we've got to rein in the spending," Bachmann said in Sarasota on Sunday, according to the St. Petersburg Times. On Monday, Bachmann's campaign spokesperson Alice Stewart said the Minnesota congresswoman was just joking. "Of course she was saying it in jest," Stewart wrote in an email to ABC News. http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/mich...-washington-campaign-joking/story?id=14404962
Put the cuckoo back in the clock! I can't stand political figures who use religion as a tool for their parties gain.
So which is it? Is it because she's: (a) a woman (b) a Christian (c) an evangelical (d) a Tea Partier (e) a bigot/racist/homophobe/anti-abortionist (f) just saying crazy things (g) got an advanced sense of humor? I mean, I lean pretty heavily toward (f), but I imagine that if one wanted to use her to paint a large swath across a portion of the populace one would choose one or more of the others.
I actually give her a pass on this one. She didn't sound like Hagee did about Katrina. This is actually much less nuts than some of the stuff she says and does. barfo
So let me get this straight... she was joking about God? Her distaste for Washington (where by the way she works and is a part of) is so strong she will speak for the almighty to make a polital jab?
Let's not leave out this little gem from her rally:
