Sounders loan Miguel Montaño to Montreal Impact
20-year-old Colombian winger moves to 2012 expansion side

Seattle Sounders midfielder Miguel Montaño is finally going to get some playing time.

The club announced on Monday that it was loaning the 20-year-old Colombian winger to the Montreal Impact, who are wrapping up their final season in the second-division NASL before joining MLS as an expansion team next year.

In his second season with the Sounders, Montaño has only featured during 31 minutes in league play, though he registered a full 90 minutes in a June 28 third-round US Open Cup match against Kitsap Pumas.

The bulk of Montaño’s action this year has come in the MLS Reserve League, in which he has eight appearances and one goal.

A THIRD CANADIAN MLS CLUB IN 2012
    [IMG][IMG][IMG]
AN ADDED PLUS FOR THE NATIONAL TEAM IN THE LONG TERM

As Canada’s national team begins its first phase of qualification for a place in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, head coach Stephen Hart and Quebec’s only starters in MLS expressed their satisfaction for the Montreal Impact’s arrival in MLS – which would mean three Canadian teams next season in North America’s premier division.

“It would be positive on many levels,” said Hart. “The players will more easily accept to play in the country once their clubs accept their call ups to the national team, which still remains a difficult issue. Three Canadian clubs in MLS will also mean that there will be room for young players and that we’ll put more emphasis on development.”

Of the 19 players selected for the Canadian National team to take on Saint Lucia (ranked 184th in the world), in the curtain raiser, on the second of September at BMO field and four days later in Puerto Rico (ranked 144th), seven players from the MLS sides.

THE IMPACT LAUNCHES ITS SPORT-ÉTUDES PROGRAM
    [IMG]

    PRESS RELEASE: September 1, 2011

MONTREAL – The Montreal Impact’s brand new sport-études program was officially launched, Wednesday, marking the beginning of the new school year at Édouard-Montpetit High School.

A total of 81 players from across the province of Quebec will make up the first edition of the sport-études program, the first of its kind in Canada.

It’s the first time a professional club partners with a school by offering youngsters the opportunity to evolve in a professional club environment. The fee for the first two years is minimal and then the third school year is free.

“This is an extraordinary day that will forever mark the history of this club, as well as the young players who will be joining us,” declared Impact director of player development Philippe Eullaffroy. “We’re kicking off this adventure of developing these young players with plenty of enthusiasm, ambition and humility. We’re also reinforcing the foundation of our club, in an effort to make this a major hub for soccer in North America.”

Montreal miss out on NASL playoffs, turn focus to MLS
    [IMG]
2012 MLS expansion club already preparing for October camp

MONTREAL - The Montreal Impact won their very last game in the second division on Saturday night, beating the Atlanta Silverbacks 4-0 on the road, but all hopes of making the playoffs disappeared when the Minnesota Stars won in Carolina to take over the sixth and final spot.

Portland Timbers loanee Ryan Pore (pictured above) netted a hat-trick for Montreal, while Miguel Montaño, on loan from the Seattle Sounders, scored the other goal.

The team finished the NASL season in seventh place, with a record of nine wins, eight ties and 11 losses, but will rue a slow start to the season that saw them win only two out of 14 games.

The arrival on loan of Pore and Montaño as well the signing of ex-New York Red Bulls midfielder Sinisa Ubiparipovic improved the team in the second part of the season, in which they won seven, tied four and lost three. Ubiparipovic played a central role in the team’s revival and showed flashes of brilliance that had been lacking in the Montreal midfield.

EVAN BUSH RECEIVES THE 2011 NASL GOLDEN GLOVE AWARD
    [IMG]
MONTREAL – The North American Soccer League announced Tuesday that Montreal Impact goalkeeper Evan Bush received the 2011 Golden Glove Award, given to the goalkeeper with the best goal-against average during the regular season.

Bush led the NASL with a 0.76 goal-against average, allowing only 14 goals in 19 games and 1,668 minutes of play. Bush ended the season with a career-best nine shutouts, including seven in his last 10 games of the season.

“I'm glad to receive this award as it means a lot for a goalkeeper,” said Evan Bush. “I also think it is a reflection of the team’s performance this season. We played well defensively, especially in the second half of the season, from the defenders to the forwards. I think everyone of my teammates played a big part in getting this award.”

HASSOUN CAMARA NAMED TO NASL BEST XI TEAM
    [IMG]

    PRESS RELEASE: September 28, 2011

MONTREAL – The North American Soccer League announced Wednesday that Montreal Impact defender/midfielder Hassoun Camara was named to the 2011 NASL All-Star Team (Best XI).

In his first season with the Impact, the 27 year-old French player led the team with 22 starts in as many games played and finished the season second with 1,949 minutes of play. He helped the team finish second in the league defensively with an average of 0.96 goal allowed. Camara also tallied two goals and one assist for a total of five points.

"Hassoun deserves to be on the best XI because he has been one of the top center backs in the league this year," said Impact sporting director Nick De Santis. "He has shown consistency even when the team was going through difficult times. His play, his attitude and his commitment have always been there for the better of the team. The club is very happy for him because it's a great honour."

Re: MONTREAL IMPACT (Impact de Montréal) FC

New Impact head coach Jesse Marsch hard at work preparing for MLS debut
    [IMG]

Marsch’s priority has been finding players who will form the team’s inaugural MLS roster.

“We’re already down the road with a number of guys. There will be some announcements coming. “We don’t want to announce everybody, because it’s important not to show all our cards before the league’s expansion draft.

The Impact will be front and centre at the MSL Expansion Draft on Nov. 22, two days after the MLS Cup final is played in Carson, Calif. The Impact will be allowed to pick a total of 10 players from unprotected lists of the 18 other MLS teams. Each of those teams can protect a maximum of 11 players. Homegrown players – those who live or train in an MLS team’s territory for at least one season – those in the Generation Adidas youth development program in the U.S., and designated players with no-trade clauses cannot be selected

The Impact will also pick first at the 2012 MLS Super Draft in early January, and shortly after that will continue to fill roster spots at the MSL Supplemental Draft

No Impact players have contracts for 2012, and all current contracts will expire by the end of October. The Impact can keep as many players as it wants from its current lineup going into MLS, and also has the right to negotiate with one player currently playing in the NASL or the U.S.-based United Soccer Leagues
