At a time when the economy has the highest unemployment/underemployment rate in history, Obama has to reconsider monetary punitive policies against business based on debatable science. That said, it seems to me he could have found some sort of middle ground with the GOP, but chose not to. I think if he would have been more level headed in the beginning this would have a much better direction.

Oh I think it was a bad idea to try to implement those kinds of regulations at this juncture. I think it's something good to strive for, but until the economy is back on its feet it would be bad to force cities to try to figure out a way to reduce their emissions. With that said, I'm not the one Obama is trying to keep happy because I didn't vote for him in 2008 and I won't vote for him in 2012.

    That's a very good post.

There are ways to accomplish what Presidents want if they will be smart & reasonable about it.

If it's not more than window dressing, good for President Obama. The left has nowhere to go but to vote for him, so he's smart to pivot and try to win back independents. He can subtly send the message to the environmentalists that once he's re-elected with no election in front of him, he'll enact all of their policies, but for right now he has to appease the moderates and the right.

I really don't see any proof that the GOP would be willing to compromise on anything, let alone the EPA.

Either way, I agree it was a smart move. Left will vote for him anyway. I expect some more moves from him similar to this.

As he gets closer to the 2012 election, his approval numbers will go up. Why? Because the Democratic Party is going to demonize the GOP candidate like never before and scare the shit out of the undecideds.

Nah... the GOP candidates do a good enough job doing that themselves (scaring the shit out of people).

See: Bachman, Parry, Palin, Trump, Paul, Cain, Santorum etc... (I know they aren't all current candidates)

But even so, you will see ads on both sides making the other seem like they are out to destroy America. It would actually be quite humorous if you didn't realize that people buy that shit.

Maybe Obama made the decision because it was the right decision to make under the current economic situation.
