Larry Dixon was the provisional No. 1 Top Fuel qualifier Friday in the U.S. Nationals. Cruz Pedregon (Funny Car), Greg Anderson (Pro Stock) and Matt Smith (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also took the provisional top spots in the final event before the six-race NHRA Full Throttle Countdown to the Championship. Dixon powered his dragster to the top of the field with a 3.883-second run at 315.56 mph. If it stands it would be his third No. 1 qualifier of the season and 51st of his career. It would also be his third No. 1 qualifier at Lucas Oil Raceway, a track where he has four career wins -- including last year. While Dixon took the provisional top spot in the class, Shawn Langdon wrapped up a spot in the Countdown to the Championship with his qualifying run. Eight-time U.S. Nationals winner Tony Schumacher was in the provisional fourth spot after one round of qualifying.
