Wow. Rumors going around that Diaz is out of the fight for no showing the press conference and Condit has been brought in to replace him. Does this mean we get BJ vs Nick? According to Dana, Nick has not been cut, just taken out of the title shot.

Nick Diaz literally snuck out the back door of Caesar Gracie's home in order to skip the press conference. Dude must be on an all-time ADD high right now. Dude is probably crawled up in Stockton somewhere tripping the fuck out.

    WOW

Dana has always complained that he wanted to have Nick Diaz fighting for him but Nick refused to "play the game".

But the reality of the situation isn't that Nick isn't responsible, it seems that he has emotional issues (which we've seen play out over several years).

Unfortunately for Nick there is more to being a UFC fighter than training and fighting and he just isn't up for it.

I'm pissed. We're never going to see GSP/Diaz now.

That being said, GSP/Condit is still a great fight.

Penn vs. Fitch 2 should now be good to go for the co-main, amirite?

What especially sucks is Diaz lobbied for this fight to happen. He wanted it. He wanted to show what he could do. So much for that.

Not only did Nick Diaz bounce, his coach Caesar Gracie doesn't know where he is and is worried about him. Yikes.

Nick needs medical help. This is about more than just fighting, he needs counseling.

Helwani: "Cesar found Nick, who is surprised disappointed that the fight is off."

    Sure he is.

"Nick was uncomfortable doing all the press."

    You don't say.

"All I know is... I was in San Francisco getting ready to get on a plane..." then he trails off and doesn't explain why he decided not to go to the "beauty pageant".

If you don't show up to work for no reason and avoid the boss' calls you get shitcanned. Sorry to Diaz who doesn't want to accept that his job involves promotion.

Sucks because I like watching Nick fight more than any other fighter plus the fight with GSP would've been great.

Bloody hell. This was a fight the fans really wanted to see. I can't believe that even DFW would cancel it just over a missed press con. That seems like a *bad* over-reaction - unless something else is going on.

I wouldn't say it is an over-reaction. Why reward a guy with a title fight if he skips two of the press conferences for it? You don't show up, you get shit canned? After his beauty pageant comment, I'd be surprised if he fought in the UFC at all.

Not showing up is bad but not telling anyone and then avoiding calls and hiding afterwards is not how a professional behaves.

If he'd told Dana "I'm having a panic attack, I can't do this" beforehand, maybe things could've been different.

Hiding under a pile of coats and hoping everything will work out is not the right way to go about it.

I don't think he'll be fired, though. If he was going to be fired Dana would've done it yesterday.

Re: Nick Diaz no-shows press conference, Condit to fight GSP [Nick posts video respon

I'm surprised he isn't getting cut. Dana has referenced specifically that Diaz "doesn't play the game" and attending press conferences certainly falls in that category. Dana said he couldn't be back in the UFC until he plays the game just a little bit. Diaz still isn't holding up his end of the bargain.

To be honest I wonder if something really is wrong with Diaz mentally and thats the reason he isn't being cut. Perhaps Caesar Gracie vouched that he is just in need of some help? I always just assumed he was a crazy asshole from the hood who didn't know how to act, which he is, but what right minded person would skip the press conference of the biggest fight of his life knowing that he was only given the opportunity under the condition that he would at least go through the motions of "playing the game"? And how about the constant incoherent rambling? Sadly Nick seems like the type of guy who would never accept the advice of any kind of mentor, even an older fighter or coach.

If he can't force himself to go to the press conference of a title fight against GSP then he could never handle all the BS that comes with being a champion anyway. There are plenty of other great fights at 170 for him but its a shame that he threw such a great opportunity for himself and the fans down the drain.

And just to add on to the above post, hes probably making pretty good money (kept talking about needing a raise from his already nice SF deal and used the boxing match as leverage) and I would imagine Dana had plenty of out-clauses in the contract if Nick pulled some shit like this. If he won't go to PCs then how can he ever fight? Dana can't let him slide on that because it would set the precedent for other fighters. Would only make sense financially for the UFC to dump him.

Re: Nick Diaz no-shows press conference, Condit to fight GSP [Nick posts video respon

Dana said Diaz would've made more for this one fight than he had for all of his previous fights combined, so it seems we're talking seven figures win or lose. Diaz has whined about not getting paid enough but doesn't come through when there is real money on the table.

We already know the Diaz bros. have ADHD but there is a chance Nick has something like social anxiety disorder (aka social phobia) as well. It has certainly manifested itself in his past behaviour.

Its also not the first time Nick has gone AWOL before a fight. Not so long ago he missed a pre-fight drug screening and had everyone thinking he was still getting the jane out of his system. When he was finally tested he came through clean but it seems he was just absent, not avoiding the test.
