Chris Mullin!!!??? I mean, I like the guy and all, but the number of talented players that Golden State has traded away boggles the mind. Was Mullin the one that did the Dunleavy-for-Captain Jack trade? I might warm to him if it was. But then if he was the one that drafted Dunleavy at #3, then he's right back on my shit list. Other than Mullin, it's basically the familiar Spurs-or-Spurs-via-Sonics obsession again. If we didn't like Pritchard or Cho, why are we going back to those wells?
A full GM does more than just talent evaluation. He runs the stadium business. I'd like someone smarter than the average bear. And someone who has been humbled by real office jobs for many years. Former NBA players like Mullin don't qualify. Why isn't Bob Whitsitt on the list? Allen fears the mighty Canzano.
Mullin is hard to evaluate. He had to deal with both a difficult owner and coach (Don Nelson). Not sure who to give credit for the talent they found and who to blame for the players they lost.
To me it just doesn't matter. After the firing of KP & Cho and others, it has become evident the GM has little authority and has to be a "yes" man.
2 NEW candidates.......... http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/31844/blazers-eye-two-more-gm-candidates
Being considered: David Griffin Neil Olshey Troy Weaver Dennis Lindsey Chris Mullin Let's say the chances are 50-50 Paul Allen will fire the new guy a year or so later. He has the money--just hire all of them. Then a year later, he'll have decided which 50% to fire, and we'll be left with 2.5 excellent GMs.
Correct me if I'm wrong HCP, but if I hunt all the GMs, they're gonna lock me up and throw away the key...
I'm gonna throw my hat into the ring. If they are merely looking for a "yes" man, I think I could fill those shoes nicely. It would even be a good fan-outreach move. I'll keep PapaG on my speed dial to run all moves by him though.
How about David Geffen. He's handled hundreds of superstars. And at least then The Rose Garden would rock.
