It actually is a great question: should GSP have been the company man and just accepted the fight change, or pushed to keep Diaz in the fight?

IMO GSP has nothing to do with it. Diaz shit on GSP, the fans, Dana, etc. and there is no other way to look at it. Hes EXTREMELY lucky he wasn't cut outright. I don't like GSP as a fighter but I honestly believe he wants to cement his legacy as the best MMA fighter ever and certainly wants the best fights at 170. If Diaz wins against Penn and GSP beats Condit I can see GSP telling Dana he wants the Diaz fight as long as Dana has a sure plan as far as getting Diaz through all the media BS. GSP is a company guy but I honestly do think he wants to face the best competition and he'll let Dana know if/when he beats Condit. Hes not one to go through the media to do things like that though and Diaz blaming GSP for this is fucking ridiculous.

You can't blame GSP for not getting into a public spat with his boss over this.

Behind closed doors, I doubt GSP was pushing UFC to cancel the fight...but some things should stay in the locker-room.
