<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Well I thought Croshere was an ok player but after reading some of the things about him I can't believe Dallas couldn't get better. This is Avery's fault for not giving Daniels the opportunity to succeed with Dallas. He was misusing Daniels ever since he started coaching.</div> I agree about Avery misusing Daniels but you can't put all of it on him. Daniels played a part in it as well, also injuries hindered his progress. It just wasn't meant to be. I'm not even going to respond to greg of the dead. But seriously I don't get the we could have got better, I don't believe Donnie is sabotaging the Mavs and making us worse. Daniels value is highly overrated. He had potential for an undrafted pick but that was about it.Just wanted to add, no one seems to be talking about the Pacers side. It was a good deal in terms of talent but where does Daniels come into play? They have Stephen Jackson, Fred Jones(who I think they might resign), Danny Granger, and their two picks James White and Shawne Williams. At pg they have Tinsley, Saras, and Anthony Johnson. They seem loaded at the swings and guards. Unless a trade occurs.
With Daniels, we have a guy playing behind Stackhouse, Howard, Terry, Harris, and now Ager (he also played behind Griffin when he was here). With Croshere, we have a guy playing behind Dirk when Damp or Diop are in the game and could be on the court at the same time as Dirk when playing small. He is known as a good shooter and a good rebounder so not sure of where the earlier statements about him come into play. I don't care about better overall talent nor do I care for better talent we could have gotten in a deal, I think Croshere was the best PF we could have gotten for Daniels and I'm happy with that.
I wish there was some way to stop idiots that don't know anything about the Mavericks or basketball in general from replying to this thread. This is a decent trade for the Mavs. Let me lay it out for you:Exhibit A: the luxury tax situation. Daniels, as previously stated, is getting payed somewhere in the $5 million a year range until 2010. Croshere has one year left (at $7.3 million, I believe) and after that he and Stack come off the books. Next year Josh Howard's extension will kick in so we need more space since Cuban does NOT want to go over the luxary tax, and also it gives us room to sign other role players - maybe even Mike James.Exhibit B: the situation with the team. Marquis wasn't going to play much here at all because he wasn't one of Avery's guys. Think of it what you will, but Avery's been right on most things so far, so I'd just get over it. Meanwhile, Croshere fills a need in that he's a pretty good shooter that can back up Dirk (something we needed - the Big German can't play 48 minutes a night). Also Ager will get some playing time, and we can try to retain Adrian Griffin or maybe get Mike James... guys Avery actually wants on this team.Exhibit C: other opportunities. You all act as if there's some huge market for Marquis. Well, everyone knew we wanted to trade him (which brings down his value), and usually teams don't give up much for a 9th man. I'm willing to wager that Croshere was the best trade available - it's not like the Magic offered Dwight Howard for Marquis and Cuban and Avery just went, "Nah, that's too good of a trade for us. We'd rather have Austin Croshere."Honestly, some of you are idiots. Now, if anyone that actually has a clue wants to tell me why this wasn't a good trade for either side, I'd be happy to listen. Several people have done so - or at least come close.
I'm thinking some of these posters are just reading over the entire thread and not bothering to find out why it's not a bad trade for Dallas. Good rundown Bowles, but I'm certain it will be read over as mine were.
I don't think it was the best trade ever, but it gives us a decent player at a position we need. Dirk is amazing. I know. It doesn't matter though, Van Horn wasn't going to cut it. His defense is terrible. It's impossible to tell if he is trying to draw a charge or dry hump the opponent. He was injured a lot of the year and inconsistent most of the year. I don't know how you can get much worse than that.Losing Daniels would hurt some teams, but not us. Who cares if we lose a young player? We have tons of great youthful talent in Diop, Howard, Harris, and now Ager. Dirk and Terry aren't old by any means, either. Marquis is a really overlooked talent, but he just doesn't fit in. It could be better, but it could be worse.
I think Indy got the better of the deal. I really like Daniels wish he got to play more. But I guess I understand why the Mavs did it to replace KVH, and contract expires after this season.
daniels was a good talent the mavs didnt need and werent going to use, so geting cap space for his huge contract has to be considered a good move. the pacers needed daniels especially after loosing peja. its not a nba live trade so i dont knw why people talk about it asthough these players will have this and that effect and all the other mumbo jumbo to accept or repudiate the trade... read between the lines sometimes its more than just player for player
