"No politics, no delays. Pass this bill!"

Denny's shilling for Obama and the Dems and trying to blame the GOP for there being no bill in the House is very funny to me.

Anyhow, I take that as a "no", eh Denny? I'm not talking about amendments, I'm talking about the actual bill that must be passed RIGHT NOW (except it doesn't even exist in the House). The one the President is waving around like Moses with his tablets RIGHT NOW!!

I don't mistake the president's urgency as some lack of a bill he presented. I'm not shilling for the guy, he's promised to focus like a laser beam on jobs a few times before, only to go on vacation the next day.

It looks like his strategy is to look like he actually cares this time and that he's the only one with the sense of urgency. He's doing what W did when he wanted legislation passed- he went on the road and made speeches. Direct appeal to the people.

I think the people are skeptical of the plan and of his agenda, so it's not likely to work out. Yet he is doing what he should do , aside from what he's actually trying to get done.

Personally, I'm skeptical myself. I don't think the bill is going to spur job creation in a meaningful way. It's really expensive, and runs up the debt some more. The urgency on his part is based on the hope that it does help the economy enough by election time to help him. And it gives him a (weak) argument to run against a "do nothing" or "obstructionist" congress. That argument surely to become barfoisms on this site over the coming months.

Still no House bill yet, but meanwhile, some interesting info from the Senate bill. As I said, Obama was trying to rah-rah his base with this crap. Meanwhile, I applaud the reasonable Dems in both the House and Senate for not pushing this flaming turd/political stunt. He fooled a few of the posters on this board though into thinking he was serious though, didn't he?

The entire joint session speech was a joke. This entire "Jobs" bill is a joke. This entire presidency is a joke.

Where is the House bill? Was it introduced today, or were those mean GOPers obstructing the hopper again?

To expand a bit on the matter of Obama's now-nameless bill missing its baptism, the problem is that Obama got it over to the House, where it is constitutionally required to originate, but none of the House Democrats came forward to sponsor it... which is even funnier than saying Obama didn't submit it.

So, Obama did submit the bill to the House, but none of the House Democrats wanted to risk their political lives by touching it, so it just kind of sat neglected in the caucus in-box.

Yeah, I've posted that in this thread more than once. You then said that no Dem would submit it because the GOP would just "table" it. So, thanks for confirming what's already been posted by me and changing your stance.

Well, clearly "PASS THIS BILL" didn't resonate with the public, as almost two weeks later the bill still hasn't been introduced in the House. Also, President Failbama now has added the caveat that any bill that is passed must include tax increases, which makes the House even more relevant.

Time for another joint session of Congress to try a new political stunt? :)

Another day, another opportunity lost to PASS THIS BILL!!!, or to even have someone introduce it to Congress.

I don't mean to trivialize things, though. I'm sure we'll see it introduced into the House any day now...

The president is so focused on jobs he seems to have focused on raising taxes on a handful of millionaires instead.

Come on....1470 isn't a handful! Who cares if it's one one-thousandth of one percent of taxpayers, or if his raise is successful that it will pay off one one-thousandth of one percent of the deficit! Sound bites and class warfare sell!

Edit: I would surmise, though, that there are more than 1470 people who are either a) committing fraud through welfare/food stamps, b) committing fraud with unemployment or c) committing fraud with SS/M/M. Instead of changing laws b/c people have found loopholes, how about enforcing the ones we already have? Instead of inventing new taxes, how about just collecting on the ones we already have? The IRS is stiffed on about 300B a year in unpaid taxes, and we're worried about raising rates for those who DO pay?

For instance (and I'm just spitballing here), collecting the $1B that Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway owes in taxes is 3x the amount you'd get if 1470 millionaires were taxed at the average of 22.75%.

Still not able to PASS THIS BILL!! because there is not a bill to pass in the House.

What's the next campaign gimmick by Obama? This one was obviously a dud, and he wasted a joint session of Congress on it.

He's moved on to class warfare.

No bill for that (taxing the .03% who have private jets), either.

    Time for another trivial gimmick?

If this thing is such a slam-dunk way to create jobs, why is Reid putting it on the back-burner?

"Vote on my bill! It hasn't yet been introduced in the House, but vote on it!! This is NOT a political stunt!!"

Cantor should sponsor the bill, introduce it, and put it to a vote after holding a press conference noting that no DEM would even introduce this stinker. More Dems would vote against it than GOP members for it.

Obama is so freaking pathetic. I imagine not one member of the media will ask Jay Carney why no DEM has inroduced the bill in the House.

Senate GOP tried to get a vote on the "Pass This Bill!!" bill today, but Harry Reid and the Dems blocked it because there were more important things to do. How anything can be more important than the bill that Obama presented before a joint session of Congress is a bit of a mystery, isn't it?
